Here's what happened... (Knocking Sound Thread)

Hey all, I've done some searching about this engine knocking but I think my problem was a little different. For a few weeks there was a faint knocking sound, kinda eminating from the underside of the car...meaning I could hear it well from the driver seat. It got louder over time and seems to increase with acceleration. I checked the oil when the sound became unbearable. It was definelty low, but by this time I think it was too late. Car had to be towed. Firestone says my engine is gone. When I bought the car, it had a replaced engine in it.

So, I ask you guys...
What do you think happend?
Replace engine with 7MGTE or 1JZ?
Is the 1jz swap reliable and worthwhile?
Part out and sell?


I am at a fork in the road. I thought this question related more to the 7M even though I am interested in a 1JZ swap. I'm sorta upset about it so I'm just looking for some input. I've only had it for about 6 mos, not to technically familiar with supras.

Thanks for hearing/viewing my rant...

basiclly you have to rebuild although if your auto matt<mkiiman> told me to put aft oil in the engine pil and this might taek it away.

is it coming under or around the 3000 pipe?

Yea, coming from under the 3k...sounds way down and back. Its a 5sp too.
