ok well im my way home today on the highway my car started to over heat, but i was at like 15 miles from home. I tried to go as slow as possible on the highway but i had to pull over. well enough said took me awhile to get home. The needle was way past H when i parked it. Now the radiator was not even hot, so the thermostat might be bad? But no my car was making this ticking noise not rod knock but very light tapping. it went away so may it be the water pump? But now my car barly want to idle. So i dont really know whats wrong. Would the rough idle be because of melted plug connectors? Any help here??thanks

Well the water had to go somewhere. The tick you were hearing is either A.) Rod knock or B.) You've cooked the head and the valves are now shot because you decided to drive home.

And yes like grim said, the rad was not hot because there wasn't any water in it.

So guys today after working in the rain for about 3 hours I finally fixed everything that was wrong with my car. After replacing the thermostat I was putting the 2 plugs back in the housing and the one fell off in my hand. So I inspected the other one and it too was about to fall off. So I replaced those with some plug I had extra from another motor swap. But that said and done I was putting fluid back in the car and heard water running. I started looking for a leak somewhere and saw it flowing like a river from the engine. Looking and finally found that the one coolant hose from the turbo to the engine was blown in half. Now after fixing that new plugs, and a new thermostat. I finally took it from a drive. Everything seems to be running fine. I checked the oil cap and dip stick again and no milkshake stuff. Then I checked the exhaust for a sweet smell and there nothing. So It looks like a fixed everything, for now . Thanks for all the responses guys you where very helpful. See ya. Tom.

No what I mean is the head as it comes from Toyota is heat treated to T6 so it's quite hard, once you overheat it and cool it a few times they go soft T0 usually on the exhaust side.

This isn't a problem until you remove it then it does the banana impression :(.

It's really hard to find a used 7M head that will pass the hardness test is straight and not erroded.
