my last few attempts at getting a nice mk3 just didn't work out and i recently tried a 2jz /r154 swap into an sc300 and that had to be abandoned because the cost of the project just got extremely overwhelming. I found a guy selling a 89 mk3 locally with a 1jz. the description is below, let me know what you guys think, he's asking 3k.

for sale a 89 supra, targa top with a JDM 1JZGTE 5 Speed Swap...R154...Clean title...I bought an uncut harness and put it in but 3 body plugs does not mate up 1 of them being the B1 plug, therefore the engine cranks but does not start & it is getting spark and fuel....I don't have the time nor the resources to finish it...All you have to do is get those 3 plugs wired and you'll be in business...Car has upgrades, Bilstein struts with tein s-tech drop springs, Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump, Full 3" y-pipes(turbo back), 3" downpipe into a 3 1/4" Apexi N1 exhaust, Brand new K&N Intake filter, 3" FMIC upgrade, Wingless hatch recently painted white, Optima red top battery relocated to the rear already, R154 5 Spd Trans, New 2jzgte Igniter, Rebuilt ECU(7-8 Capacitors & 1 Transistor changed out) Good tires all around maybe 65% thread left on them, Godspeed 2 Row Aluminum radiator with dual speed maxima electric fans

i wouldnt touch someone elses un finished swap. Id either buy one running and do a swap myself or buy one thats fully swapped and running perfectly. The gray area your about to enter can be VERYYY indepth or damn simple. I highly doubt its simple. Most people can/would finish out simple... of course money can be another factor.

If it was a buddy i had helped along the way it would be different, but a stranger... puff puff passss-.02

I agree w/ both of the fellaz. Seems too simple...for him not to finish. (Just 3 body plugs!!!) I wouldn't recommend it. I have also seen alot of situations like that where the PO says he just got bored and doesn't want to finish...WATCH OUT. That 3K can turn out to be another 3K not including labor/bloody knuckles in fixing his crappy job. Just my 2 cents.

Well if you have the time and money then go for it. I mean say worse case possible, u still have an r154 to work with, a clean title and some upgrades. personally i think its fishy but income tax time is comin and maybe u may find a nice 1jz

I call BS on the guy, the car wouldn't crank without the B1 plug connected, the wiring to the starter is on that plug. Also, the fuel pump relay connection is on that plug, so without it the car would not be getting fuel.

In later wiring (90+) the B1 plug will connect to the 1jz harness, and most if not all of the wiring matches up. However, every 89 i've seen has the earlier style wiring where the plugs are totally different.

I'd say go check it out, get some pics of the wiring. You can't really do a 5spd 1jz swap for under $2k so that's most of the value of the car right there. If everything is in decent condition it could be worth it.

If the body and interior are good, and the engine it ok, it's a sweet deal.

Assuming the goods are there: decent tires, nice wide rims, suspension isn't bagged, would pass a safety inspection and has a minimum (or none) body rust... I'd snatch that up like a fat kid on cake. If the engine cranks, that's great; do a compression and/or leak down test to see how it's sealing up. The wiring mess could be sorted by either trying to trouble shoot the problem or just starting over from scratch with a new harness and a call to Pheonix Tuning, and get a PnP harness made.

If everything else on the car is ok and the wiring costs $1000 to fix with new harnesses, it could be a nice $4000 car. It seems to me that the condition of the paint, body, interior and the rest of the guts is more important than a few botched wires. Wire and heatshrink are cheap...

If that ^ is the link, I would go for it. The car seems to be straight, and the engine is in there. Just wire it up. Worst case is you will have to start from scratch. Not a big deal.
