ok here is the run down...
i had saved $1000 cnd for my insurance for this summer, but now it looks like im not going to drive this year because i wont have enough money, so i was wondering what you ppl think i should do with the money i have?
my car is a 87 turbo(auto), and it has no mods besides a muffler, i would like to up the horsepower alot, but i dont realy want to get into the engine internals (tho i will probably need a mhg at some where down the road i guess) so what do u think?

oh yeah its in good condition (57000 km), so do u think i need a mhg now?
any suggestions will be great

thanks agian.

when you say "muffler" do you mean just a muffler, or any other part of the exhaust system?

if the car only has 57,000km total (is this verifiable, or could the odo be tampered with?) it doesn't need a new gasket, and you're not going to need a metal head gasket unless you crank the boost on your turbo pretty high, and you're not going to be doing that without a few other mods yet.

as for mods, the first step to more power is better breathing. I'd go with an intake, and exhaust first.

DO ALL THE MAINTINANCE YOU CAN BEFORE ANY MODS!
I cannot stress this enough, spend some of that money on getting the engine into tiptop shape. change all fluids, (oil, coolant, differential, etc), pull the transmission dipstick when it's warm, and smell the fluid. brown or burnt toast smell (or both) == bad, you may want to have a transmission shop transfuse new fluid in.

CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 2000km!!
the CT-26 turbo doesn't like to live very long on dirty oil. oil changes are cheap and quick, and save you lots of money down the road.

remember, the first thing to do is make sure your car is in good shape before you try to make more power.

think of it as pouring good foundations under a house. If you build a million dollar home on crumbling foundations, you're going to have issues down the road.

good luck, and

Regarding foundations, you may want to also get a tranny cooler. The auto tranny can't hold much hp, but keeping it cool will help it be more resiliant.

good call on the tranny cooler, but the autobox in the supra is actually surprisingly strong. With good service, and a transmission cooler, I've heard stories of 300RWHP going through it without a problem, which would lead me to believe it will handle higher (but don't quote me on any of this, I'm repeating stuff I've read places)
