I was at the track this past saturday night and blew a head gasket. My car never got above half temperature, and the radiator didnt even feel hot. None the less, I raced a dodge hemi powered truck and blew a gasket. (I won the race) Is there a thread explaining the best route to go when replacing the hg? Do I need to have work done to the block even if it didnt run hot? I'm going to have the head rebuilt and checked out. I really dont want to remove the motor unless I have too. Thanks for your help and answers....lol

Alot of the people on here will say that the only way to do it right is to have the block surfaced. But there are alot of people, myself included, that replaced the hg without surfacing the block and have had no problems. Just check the block with a straight edge and clean it really good with a scraper and you should be fine, but in the end, it's totally up to you. Good luck.

Is the toyota h.g. a good one to go back with? Do you recommend a metal h.g.? When I have my head reworked, is their anything that anyone suggests going with? I seen a few options on HPF.com Just wondering what the best options were.

All you need is the tsrm, it's a fairly easy job, it's just time consuming. You should also consider buying a rebuilt head from someplace like clearwater cylinder head, that way you just take yours off and put the new one on, just a suggestion...
