I use a screwdriver and wedge it between the water pump studs and the water pump housing to keep it from turning.

If all the bolts are out, lightly tap on the housing with a rubber hammer to free it loose.

I have always used an actual gasket and a small amount of sealer.

^^^I did EXACTLY what he said...The water pump is kinda a PITA to break free...I used Ultra Black RTV on an Autozone gasket and pump...Also, make sure the tension on the altnator belt isn't excessive, or you will be replacing the water pump again shortly...

I guess it's actually against the clutch fan housing? And you need a fairly hefty flat screwdriver and put your wrench on the next nut on top.

If you took off the 4 nuts it's probably just stuck on the shaft and might need a tap to crack it loose.
okay im sorry everyoen but some of you must have misread my posts :(
Anyway what i meant to say was i have taken off all the botls for the water pump to the block without havign to take off the clutch and fan. Now the Water pump wont move and i want to take off the bolts from the fan so i dont damage it at all. Any suggestionas now?

You are replacing the water pump, right? If you are, you will have to seperate the fan clutch from the water pump first, so you can put it on the new pump. It is much easier to leave the water pump bolted on, and then pry the fan clutch off of the pump... And if your pump won't turn, then you should definitely replace it...

edit: i just re-read your last post, and it seems you are afraid of damaging the fan by pulling on it to get it and the fan off of the pump? The fan can take a lot of tweaking, it's really strong.

I was pulling on mine and bending it quite a bit, and it didn't break...just grab opposite sides of the fan, close to the center, and pull from side to side, and it should start to come off...and when it starts, then you can use a flathead screwdriver to kinda pry it off as you pull.
