OK the summary is my clutch pedal went to the floor with no tension. I managed to limp the car home and got it in the garage. First inspection revealed leakage right at the firewall. The master cylinder and lines all look good..so, I need some direction PLEASE !!

I had the same issue Sunday, however my cause and solution would probably not be relevant.

It was the first night it had gotten cold around here, and the slave cylinder (i believe) dumped all of the fluid in the parking lot. There was none in the lines or reservoir. I took my bike to get fresh fluid to see if I could find a leak, filled up the reservoir and pressurized the system by pumping the clutch pedal. Clutch pedal came back and hasn't leaked since.

I know I need a slave cylinder- what I believe happened was that the seals in the slave cylinder shrank due to the cold and allowed it to hemorrhage.

If the lines look good, try doing what I did and see if it retains fluid.

if it looks like its leaking at the firewall the seal in the master is probably gone. Happened on my 88, tho not to the point that i completely lost the pedal. If you are replacing it i would also suggest replacing the slave cylinder and the rubber clutch hose as well when you do it. Tho upgrading to the steel braided line would be the best way to go if you are replacing that line.

This is what I don't understand about some people.....you say you see fluid leaking but then you say it looks "good"???!!! The fuck?

External view means nothing! Obviously you found a possible problem so one would assume it's not supposed to leak....so replace it...where is the rocket science? You are asking for some sort of advice when you already found the possible problem....what exatly are you asking from us? Permission maybe? Go ahead and replace it...you have our full support!

On that note...

Replacing a master cylinder is a pita! I've found removing the drivers seat makes the job 10x easier! Lay on your back and go too town!

No what I meant is the master and slave look fine, but there is partial or was.. partial leakage, right at the firewall. Although now, I feel like a tard, because the reservoir is empty...doh! Fixing to put fluid in and see what I got..but even if it's restored, I'm still gonna replace it, I don't like leaks and I would never abuse a car like that anyway. Thanx for the support guys !

Ok I got fluid in there and now have partial tension, to the point where the pedal comes back up when I release it. And I believe that was water, not fluid. It has been raining like a tropical rain forest down here, and I went through a lot of standing water this morning (there was no way around it, or I would not of went through it). I'm gonna let it dry out for a few hours and see if it will tighten up a little bit more. BTW.. clutch is a RPS stage 3, and is very firm. It's comparable in feel to my bro's ACT in his MKIV. Right now it feels like a OEM clutch out of a civic...lol. I'll check it in a couple hours after it dries out some more. Meanwhile, I got some parts to order.

You've never gotten a new "bad" Toyota "Toyota oem" slave/master...don't blow smoke up our ass! More like operator error!

It feels so soft because it mostly likey got some air in their, so you have to bleed it.

And also, think about it, clutch fluid just dosen't disapper, it has to go somewhere if its going low.

It has been bled off, and well of course the actual fluid went somewhere, I was just worried that was fluid at the firewall..I mean.. who would'nt be? thanks for the input guys, I'll try not to freak out next time..lol.

Yeah, because its freaking impossible for there to be a bad part from toyota...:icon_roll

kinda f-ed up to tell the guy hes blowing smoke when I know for a fact that there are the instances of bad parts from the factory, hear it all the time from my friend that works at the toyota dealer right next to the ford dealer i work at, and yes we get bad parts every now and then from ford, everything is off an assembly line or put together by sweatshop workers, bad parts will come through every once in a while.

I'm betting it was brake fluid and not water, but ignore me at your own risk (and your paint's risk as brake fluid WILL eat your paint)
