HELP! is this hurting my car/turbo?!

there are two things that are bothering me...

1. i was reading articles on turbo surge and "flutteR" the only upgrades i have made to my car is a rebuilt ct26 57 trim with a new silicone accordian and a K&N FIPKfrom driftmotion..now i can hear the turbo spooling which is awesome and antime i shift under boost i hear a moderately loud Flutter. i have a stock system...no aftermarket BOV btw. but anyways i like the sound but is it any kind of indication that its hurting my turbo? its not loud thhat people in another car can hear it...just the people in my car i think.

2. the second thing is i had my heater core replaced at driftmotion as well and we used a JDM heater core and just customized it so it fit into my US mk3. my original heater core was leaking coolant pretty heavy.. anyways now it makes gurgling sounds until it warms up on cold mornings. just sounds like gurgling come from the right side of the firewall. ive tried to burp it..i dunno if i did it correctly..but is this gurgling indication of any problems? would it be safe for me to go ahead and upgrade my exhaust system even with this gurgling? just wanna make sure it doesnt fuck up the head gasket or something. (i get nervous anytime the coolant is a problem in a supra)

When you burped the system, did you have the heater on full blast? You can also try burping it while you're on an incline. As long as you don't overheat, you shouldn't have a problem. I don't see why you would have any problems upgrading your exhaust.

You might wanna check if your stock BPV is working properly...

yea when i first burped my system i put the heater on full blast..saw some bubbles come up. ihave yet to do it on a incline..i mean i trust aaron he checked everything out before he gave the car back to me. the stock bov always fluttered but it was very faint almost couldnt hear it...and now i have the K&N FIPK i can hear it pretty good. is the flutter bad?? how do i check my stock bov to see if its bad? what signs do i look for?

I was just about to post a similar question regarding the BOV. I recently upgraded to hardpipes and apexi intake and I can now hear my BPV Flutter. I'm guessing the stock airbox really masked the sound before. I've tried blowing through it and I could not. How bad a problem is this on a stock setup with stock boost.

Also, i've been looking for the Bosch 110 BPV and I can't seem to find one at a good price. Most are over $60. I can find some of the 102, 103, ... for cheaper. Anyone have a good place to buy the 110 and if not is it ok to get the lower models.

haha srbigbutt. thats exactly what was going through my head. i dont think it should be too bad for the system...i think it did it before just the stock airbox masked it. and yea ive been looking at the bosh110BPV as well but i heard that will flutter even mroe than our stock ones. overall i d0nt think theres anything wrong with the flutter unbless a more experienced mk3er can tell me otherwise!! PLEASE! lol

stock bov is usually only good for stock...

you can try burping the system but are you sure you dont have any leaks? any lose of power? milky residue under the oil cap? any smoke?

smoke is very light during cold startup...i assume thats normal...other than that no smoke. i chcek the oil cap weekly..no milky choclately fluid. i dont feel any loss of power from what it had before. and should i upgrade to the bosch 110 BPV then?

Pretty normal with the stock BPV. Mine has a nice flutter when I let off the throttle with a stock CT.

And sounds like you have air in the heater core. It can be a pain to get rid of..

I bigger BOV is a good idea. I have a Bosch BOV kicking around I can sell you, but it did flutter as well, although it will be quite a bit better than stock because it flows more air. I later installed a larger BOV but had it set too tightly, and it fluttered also, and I think it really shortened the life of my 57 trim CT. When that turbo bearing failed, I upgraded to a T4 turbo and I increased the size of the hard pipe outlet to 1" to match the size of the BOV. Since then the flutter is virtually gone now, and it flows tons more air.

Verify that the vacuum line running to the BOV is working first. If this is plugged, the BOV won't function, and you'll get flutter.

With the car cold, pull off the small line from the BOV and blow into it. If you can't blow through it, chances are it's plugged with PCV gunk, and you'll need to pull off all the lines from the BOV to the intake manifold and clean them out. I blew mine out with brake cleaner from a spraycan.

If the line is fine, then chances are you've exceeded what the BOV can handle.
