Help Identify Coolant leak near front of engine

I just finished up doing a BHG job on my supra, and Ive come across some leaks. This one is near the front of the engine on passenger and drivers side (could be 2 seperate issues) You can really see the leak right where the ventalation tube goes into the block on the drivers side. I cant really see where its coming from though. Also the water pump itself is wet on top and around that area. I figure maybe a bad water pump seal or water pump itself, but I dont understand how its getting around to the other side. I have some pics. Oh and my belts dont like it

Check under intake manifold towards the front.. That hose coming out of lower runner could be leaking. Can you pressurize the system to check leaks?

Did you deck the block and head?
If so did you have the rear timing cover decked along with the block?
If not, that is your problem.

Edit: Did you apply sealant where the TSRM shows to?

I had just the head resurfaced, I am using a factory composit type headgasket. And I did apply sealant, I hope it was enough. If it wasnt, would coolant be coming out of that area? Im going to retorque the head studs anyway soon here, Also going to replace a few things while im in there. (hoses, possibly water pump) Oh and I checked the coolant hoses going up through the intake and they are not leaking.

Did you replace the intake manifold gasket...there is a seal on it for the coolant fitting leading to the ISCV/TB between the lower intake and the head. It's right in the area you show.

Agree with jdub i had the same problem and couldn't find the problem turned out to be the intake gasket agist the head hadn't sealed. i would fell around there and see if that is where it is coming from.

Yup replaced all the gaskets, but Ill check it out to make sure, I think the 90 degree hose on the opposite side of the engine is leaking quite a bit, Is it possible for it to spray all the way around the motor like that? Im going to replace it anyway with toyota stuff.

Hey man sorry to hear you've got leaks! The rear timing cover was definitely flat with the block and there was definitely enough sealant put on there, but that seals oil anyways and not coolant. What they are saying about the intake manifold gasket or the hose that connects under there sounds like the culprit. I remember both surfaces around that hole being smooth and clean where the gasket seals.

Im pretty sure autozone has cooling system pressure testers for loaners in case you cant otherwise find the leak.

Yah I might do that, I have the turbo off and everything. Had lots of leaks, valve covers... Coolant flange that goes into turbo. I checked those hoses going up through the intake and they dont look like they are leaking. Im going to make sure it doesnt leak this time LOL. Once I get it back together I think it will be fine. Sucks having to do things twice, But now I'll remember for next time.

Damn that sucks! The valve cover bolts are pretty light torque i think if you tighten them down too much they tend to leak, and they need a little RTV in the sharp corners around the front cam cap. Good luck man let me know if you need an extra hand or anything

I got it all together and am getting a fairly large oil leak at the rear of the head, from the valve covers. I am really getting sick of this. But Ill tear her back down again and throw some silicon, new seals and retorque the hex bolts I put in with a inch lb's torque wrench I have to buy now. I was tightening them evenly with a ratchet-screwdriver with a hex bit on it, shouldnt be too much torque.

it could be leaking on the otherside, blowing into the fan and the fans blowing it onto the other side of the engine.

As long as you didn't crank on it, the torque is probably not your issue, especially if its leaking that much. You should just inspect the surfaces and everything and make sure the gaskets are sitting flat and evenly. Sounds wierd that both would leak at the back like that, maybe theres something holding them up? Also make sure the seal is clean and dry before you install it, if its all wet with oil it could leak. I have an inch pound torque wrench you can use if you'd like.
