ok guys, here's one for you. while i was driving down the highway at 60, the lights flickered but i didn't really pay attention to it. about a half mile down the road they did it again, then the car just shut off.
i did some diag on the side of the road, but i didn't feel safe there so i had it towed home just now. the engine cranks over fine, but the engine light DOES NOT come on when turning the key on. i checked the underhood fuses, and found the bottom right 30a was bad. i tried another one but still no start. i plan on checking the fuses under the dash in the morning, and maybe a spare computer.
has anyone had this happen to them? also, does anyone know what circuit the engine light is on? with gm's, if the light doesn't come on there's a blown fuse but i don't know about toyotas.
hopefully i'll find a blown fuse, but then i'll have to figure out why it blew.

Bottom right is EFI fuse and its 15 amps.
Lights flickering could be a short circuit so you should check your battery cables large and small for any rubbing or worn insulation touching bare metal and if you had the wrong rated fuse in the EFI slot, I would put a correct one in there and also pull the computer and see if it has that burned smell.

i replaced the starter a few days ago. i'm going to look in that area to see if i hit any other wires while removing it. if i'm lucky, that's all it is. :)

I had a similar issue when the engine harness was not "hung" properly along the injectors, after a HG fix, and made contact with the intake/plenum. Car shut off out of nowhere, blowing the AM1 fuse. Basically burned a few wires and would blow the main fuses, whenever I tried to use the headlights (positive wire making contact at the plenum). I pulled the harness back and made the repair and hung/attached the harness correctly. No more issues.

Hopefully it's just a loose connection at the starter, or something easy. Good luck!

thanks,.... i really hope it's not the ecu............ i just sold my spare yesterday...

I wouldn't worry to much about the ecu. The odds of that are very small but hey anything can happen.
