well i was under the impretion that 91 turbo engine harness would fit the 89 N/A Shell...? well for some reason mine dont. and im out of cash so i cant go out and buy a 89 GTE harness.

so im ganna do it the "HARD WAY". cut and solder the connection of my 91 harness to match the 89. using the n/a harness plug that i have.

but as i do the matching wires thing to check if i have all wire colors desame i run into some problem as expectec.

there are 7 wires that the GTE harness has that the ge body harness dont have.
this im unsure if needed or not.
heres the list.

From the BIG grey plug
-plain blue wire
-plain brown wire

From the white plug
-black wire w/ yellow stripes w/ 2 silver dash every 1 inch
-torquese(light green) w/ red stripe w/ 1 silver dash every 1 inch

From the small grey plug
-plain yellow wire
-plain black wire
-red wire w/blk stripes w/ 2 dash at every 1 inch.

and a whole lot of wires that the body harness has that the GTE harness dont have.

im asuming that these wires arent needed?

if any info lmk.

im trying to read up on the wiring diagram but im not getting it lol

Check to make sure what options the two cars had.
The wires for NA/gte is diffferent for sure.
Some wires on the white plug would go to things like tems etc I think.

Check tsrm EWD and you will see.

Your assumption that the harnesses are the same is incorrect.
N/a and turbo harnesses are different.

um thats the conclution since they dont match lol

and btw i didnt say the ge and gte harness are desame i said i was under the impretion that the 91 harness would fit the 89 shell... for a turbo convertion

you know 86-88 and 89-92... dammit lol

anyways so any info if those wires are somewhat importnat?

and also the n/a shell has an extra O2 sensor bt the second cat. cat i just cut that since im using after market exhaust?

yeah the 91 has abs and airbag.
the 89 dont have iether

both have tems.

and for the white plug. the turbo harness has 5 wires
the shell harness has 2. those two match the other 3 doesnt.

Well the obvious answer should be to get a n/a harness.
Not trying to be an ass but I'm sure you see what I'm saying.

uh i dont get you... its a ge to gte convertion so the obvious answer would be to get a 89 turbo harness... cause i do have 89 n/a harness but the turbo exlectronics wont have a plug to plug into lol.

89 is a basturd year, some got older style harnesses and ecu's some got new so thats where you should start with. Did the 89 have yellow or gray connectors for the ECU? If yellow you need 87-88 harness gray 89+.

Oh, the way you stated it, it looked like you were hooking up a gte harness to a ge. :)
If you have the sensors for the extra plugs that should take care of a few things, one of the biggest differences is the plugs around the water pump area.
There's some threads that have a picture of what each plug on the gte goes to in that area. You would probably be better off getting a water outlet housing from a gte to simplify it. You should be able to skip the cat plug also.

It will be easier if you get a harness that is the same year.

What colour are the plugs on the ECU side of the 89 turbo harness?

Are they all grey?

Go to MKIIItech.com all answers relating to these kind of questions are on Dr.Jones site. Very well written and documented as well.
