Hello All. I'm Jim from the Seattle area. I've been reading and using this site for the last 2 months and finally got some time to tell you about myself. I've always loved the Supra MKIII body style since it's introduction. So when I was looking for something to tinker with I decided to go for it. After looking at many many used MKIII's on craigslist here, I was almost ready to give up since the available vehicles were beat and way too expensive.
Actually the last vehicle I looked at before giving up turned out to be in the best shape for the cheapest money. I bought it for $500. It is a Burgandy/Burgandy 86.5 with 7MGE and automatic transmission. Would have prefered a 5 speed but had to settle. Didn't want to mess with a turbo since I have no experience with them and there so much easier to beat to failure.
This vehicles interior and exterior were in really good shape, however the engine threw a rod and made a nice 2 inch hole in the block. This was a perfect vehicle for me to work on. I'm an old elecrical engineer and have a nack for mechanical engineering also. I have been playing with cars and engines since I was a kid and after a long time off from this due to children, I'm finally able to spend more time with my hobbies.
So this is where my saga started to completely restore this magnificant design of a true sports car.
I'm almost finished and have many pics to post soon. I would really like to thank everyone on this forumn. For without all the info I learned on this site I would have struggled much much longer. All the tricks, traps, suggestions and good expert testimonials played a significant role in my restoration project. For that in return I will continue to read and contribute to this GREATEST Supra forumn. Count me in and I promise, many pics to come.
