The VSV that controls the valve that lets hot coolant into my car broke. I bypassed it and now i have heater again. Hurray.

I have an extra VSV laying around somewhere but I can't find it... its not going to harm anything having it bypassed for a few weeks will it?

You can have it bypassed forever if you want. It actually only functions when using air conditioning because it stops hot coolant from entering the heater core when you are using the a/c.

A good trick if you want to eliminate the heater vsv completely is to do what I did which is take out the vsv completely and flip the heater hose that goes to the back of the head backwards and connect the hose directly from the back of the head to the firewall. Really cleans things up. ;)

Here is a pic of the heater hose installed backward in teh engine bay - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/heedah007/S350019477888888.jpg

I havn't had AC in forever so I'm not too worried about that...

That's a REALLY nice idea. I'm going to look at that tomorrow see if its worth the effort.... That'd get rid of the vacuum line running all the way across too!

Is there ANY downfall to doing this if I don't have AC? Anyone?

One step worse than that, actually - it only turns the hot coolant supply off when you turn the AC to MAX cold... so very rarely.

yep make sure that your heater hose is in good shape and flexible. Just simply attach the side of the hose that normally goes to the back of the head to the firewall side instead, and the vsv side of the hose to the back of the head. Done! No downfall, youll be good to go.

LOL! That's awesome!

I'll get one from Toyota and get it done. I doubt mine's in very good condition, its the one hose i didn't replace when I did the rebuild
