im doing the heater core on my 86.5 and i have the dash all the way out, the steering column is dropped and i can see the core. what confuses me and what pisses me off is that the core is surrounded by this white box/heater vent bs. can anbody give me some advice on what my next step is or how the hell to take this apart.

thanks, wilcox

You take the ac lines off (if ac system is filled gas and oil will come out. And it doesnt smell or taste good and can make a mess. )in the bay along with the heater hoses.
Remove all the bolts holding the box on.
Then remove the bolts holding the box together and remove the core.

All heater core require some disassembly of the box to remove it. Tho some are really easy. Most require the dash to come out like the mk3

No need to disconnect the ac lines to the evaporator. Just disconnect the two collant hoses in the engine bay and than remove the bolts holding the heater box and remove it. Once it's out of the car than you can take the heater core out. You also have to take out the dash bar after the dash comes out to get the heater box out
