So at first my heater blower would only blow on med and high.. now it has totally gone. I did a few searches and i found that it most likely is the heater resistor?

I also found that appearently it is only about $23 to replace rather than trying to do the sogi tip? so why not. I call up my local toyota dealer and they want $58! for it and they'd have to order it.. I gave him the part number and thats what he pulled up? I asked him if it was the heater blower resister.. he said "well, it is a resistor" as if he didnt have a clue as to what he was talking about.. ok thanks bye.

soo now im looking into the sogi fix lol.. I read over it atleast 4 times... and i am still confused as to what exactly needs to be done? Especially if all three speed settings are gone? Has anyone done the fix before?

It broke for a reason ;) Usually you'll fix it and it will break again soon after.

Auto parts store can get them (or any number of online places), or you can try PMing Jeff Lange as he work at a Toyota dealer in Canada.

QFT.

I did the fix first, lasted another couple months, then went again.

So, I picked up a new one, it's been running perfectly for years now.

Toyota dealers in Canada will bend you over for the price of parts. :( I order all my stuff from Mark at Vancouver Toyota in Washington state now, saves me a crapload of money even after I pay shipping and duties.

Autozone has them for $35. They also price match.
OReilly auto has them for $29. They also price match.

Both have a lifetime warranty.

ok so i just tried to solder it... it doesnt wanna stick.. no matter how much wire i feed it just rolls off lol. Soo.. im basically looking into getting a new one..

i will try part stores like napa auto parts and partsource ... (Canada...im also in a small city..).

i wish i had my passport so i could just drive over to detroit.. takes 5 mins without a backup at the border. i wish i were in the states.. car parts would be sooo much cheaper!

if those stores let me down i might just have to suck it up and pay $60 at the stealership :( because its starting to get quite cold.. i need heat. Unless someone so very kind with some free time would wanna buy it and ship it over for me :biglaugh:

google search elmhurst toyota in chicago (Can also be found on supraforums)

They'll get you the resistor for less than about $30.

You're not putting enough heat into the base. Stick the iron onto the part itself and then put the solder on the heated part. Did you use any kind of flux?

and I didn't realize you're in Canada..opps... Damn, y'all don't have Autozone up there?? haha

Only NAPA and Partsource up here (Canadian Tire's automotive section made into a store)

For some off reason, on the past two winter cars I've owned (most recent being my 1995 VW Gold TDi, and the previous being a 1998 Ford CVPI) it wasn't the resistor that actually caused my fan to only work on 3 and 4. It was the physical climate control unit.

shipping would maybe be another $5 on something that small

for those trying to repair their resistors, Are you trying to apply solder to the coils in place of the ceramic paste? I hope not...

hey guys sort of an update... I got my new one in today.. and NOTHING :(
so i think it is the blower itself? idk where to go with this one. when i press the different speed buttons, i hear clicking etc.. so i dont believe it would be my climate control.. how would i go about checking wats wrong?

hey guys, this is sort of another update lol.
I pulled my glove box.. and saw that the fan wasnt spinning. a trick i learned from a mechanic for electrical motors such as windows motors and starters.. etc is to tap/hit the motor itself while it is being fed power (like when it is supposed to be on or something).. it should start up. worked for my power window and for a starter on a friend's neon. But it isnt a fix.. it just confirms the motor is in need of a rebuild or replacement..
so i hit the blower motor and sure enough it started spinning.. then it stopped .. soo i need to replace it.
And ohwell i didnt waste money on my new resistor anyway because my low speed setting wasnt working and it was pretty corroded.
So.. anyway time to start a wtb thread lol.
thanks for input guys
