I have so much heat coming up from around the auto gearshift. My leg sweats continously while driving. Do any of you other auto guys have the same problem. I know everything is sealed up good since I replaced the bushings on the shifter. Just wondering.

Holy Smokes. I had the same complaint about a month ago. I noticed it coming from the same place (auto shifter) after I put in the radio. I opened the dash back up, in the radio area, and looked around but all the carpets and insulation were in place. My guess for the heat is the typical 7m hot as hades under hood temps heat up the firewall and underside as the under hood air vents out of the bottom of the car.

One thing did help. Not necessarily from the shifter heat but heat in general. I made sure that my ac was not venting from the outside. I put it on recirculate cabin air and that seemed to help as well as not blowing the air through the floor or bottom vent settings. My feet and legs were sweating from the auto ac fan setting mixing the air from the outside and pushing it through the bottom and top vents as well.
One more thought I had was the fact that I removed the gasket that goes in between the back of the firewall and the engine hood. I read somewhere it would help vent the heat out of the engine compartment. As you know the fresh air intake for the ac runs along or under the wipers / front windshield and maybe the heated air was being sucked in.

Yep, same issue on both my automatics. I haven't yet, but plan to get a tranny cooler. See thread:

Haven't priced one out yet. My parking brake gets so hot you can't touch it.

On the other hand, I don't use the heat much :icon_smil

Excellent thread there. I can't believe I hadn't seen it already. I wonder what kind of difference it will make in the amount of heat bleeding into the cabin.

Not to mention the hot ass downpipe/cat/exhaust in that same area...

Yep...my downpipe and CAT are ceramic coated. It helps tremendously.

i was going to say the same thing. after installing my dp i notice the unhood temp went way up. my dad told me how at this boat store they have a huge selection of exhaust wrap that they sell by the foot. i went down there and for under $20 i was able to wrap my whole dp. it was like 80 cents a foot (way cheap) there wasn't any reason not too. it made my underhood temp go way way down. also my stick shift doesn't get near as hot as it used to. all in all a good cheap upgrade that will help cool everything

My DP lowered underhood temps...

But I modified the stock heatsheild so I could bolt it back on.

jdub: isn't there a risk in ceramic coating the cat?

I did just the outside shields...the hole on each end was blocked to prevent any over-spray on the matrix. Heat retention has not been a problem, if anything, it heats up to it's efficient working temp faster. I also ceramic coated the heat shield that attaches to the underside of the car above the CAT.

I would think ceramic coating the cat would make it more efficient.

Anyways, you guys need to put it in neutral at a stop; yes even automatics. The two biggest heat generators are heavy load (going fast) and at a stop, where the engine and transmission is trying to go but the brakes dont want it to. This builds lots of heat and your tranny fluid will hate you for it.
