:1zhelp: I want to replace my headgasket, not because I need to, but because I want to, as a preventive measure. I've searched, but I can't find any specific answers. If I use a Toyota headgasket and the ARP's, will I have to prep the head and or block?? if not can I just R&R the parts for the old ones??? Keep in mind I've not blown the stock gasket and the car has never overheated. Thanks for your time and help, really.:icon_smil

on a budget (and I know it works because I did this and I'm running 13psi no problems)

take it all apart, clean the block as best you can using a scraper (razorblade or w/e) and then lightly sand it using like....400 grit? (be careful not to drop anything in the engine...that includes sand from the sandpaper. May want to stuff some paper towels or rags or something in the cylinders) I can't remember what I used, just something to make sure there was no gasket material left. Do the same with the head, LIGHTLY sand it, make sure there's nothing on there. Wipe everything down (I think I sprayed the head with brake cleaner or something) it's not gonna look perfect. You might want to take a mechanics strait edge and make sure it's not warped or w/e. (check via the tsrm). ARP studs with a stock gasket torqued to the arp (use studs) specs. go back after a couple thousand miles and retorque.

I've made over 40 passes at the track from 8psi to 15psi with no problems.

If you plan on going with a lot of power some day you might as well get everything lapped and throw a mhg in there though.

No big plans right now cuz I'm in school. It's my DD and I wanna keep her that way for while. Judging by responses, the head needs to be prepped for shure. Well thats mainly what I was looking for. Thanks for the help guys.

I just finished my head replacement, using toyota hg and arp bolts, today I actually drove it for a first time and this thing is as solid and 2jz jk, but very close.
you will need few more bucks for misc gaskets like intake manifold, throtle body, and some turbo oil gaskets.
The best way to go about the gasket is to get a kit from toyota+arp and get back on the road;)
