Hey guys,
I'm at a crossroad with the head on my current stock rebuild and need your help. All I wanted to do originally was resurface a head, replace the valve stem seals, and call it a day... but of course that plan went sour.
There are three different heads in play right now.
1. Theres the head on the car now which was taken apart and refreshed when I did the headgasket about 20-30k ago. The car smoked slightly but I'm not sure whether or not it was rings, turbo, seals, ect. (I really don't want to use this head on my current build).
2. Theres the first used head I picked up which looked really healthy overall but the machine shop found a crack.
3. Then there is the last used head I picked up which tested ok, but the valves looked burnt to shit and it was missing some shims. This head has already been resurfaced for a metal head gasket.
So I was thinking about swapping the entire valvetrain from the second head into the 3rd head or just having the machine shop pick the best parts from those two heads and try to match the shims to the cams in my current motor.
What's my best and most cost efficient alternative here?
What other machine work would be needed regarding my swap idea?
Am I missing anything?
As always... Thanks for your help,
Chris
