So i just picked up a 92 NA 5speed with a BHG. I decided to swap in a used JDM engine instead of a rebuild. Also i bought a HKS MHG 1.2 with ARP bolts for a little insurance. The new engine does not have a BHG or any sighns of overheating while its ripped apart right now waiting for the MHG to go on.
My question is can i just clean the head and bolck (removing old residue/other materials) and throw on the MHG or is machining needed on the head and block??

bout 2-3 days if this is your first supra HG, and depending on how fast you can have the head machined. can do it with motor in car, but remember to drain the oil aswell, oil+antifrezze = recipie for rodknock.

as for the block, clean it really really well. if you think its clean enough, do it again. as your NA a OEM gasket torqued down should last a long time, unless your going NA-T

yes, aluminum heads almost always have damage from the hg blow out. you will see once its off. also bolt the metal timing cover back on, as it will have to be machined to match the head

1: remove intake/exaust manifolds
2: mark timing belt to cam gears, then remove timing belts
3: remove head
4: have head checked/machined as nessacary
5: clean block of old gasket material
6: reassemble
