I'm working on my friend's 7M-GE because it blew it's head gasket. Today I got as far as removing everything but the head, including the head bolts. There are three larger bolts that are bolted into the head between sets of two spark plugs.

There were some of these bolts on the plate covering the plugs and my 21mm allen wrench got those out no problem. I started to strip one of the other bolts using the same 21 mm wrench. Is it a different size I need?

Thanks.

Are you talking about the ones that hold the metal cover down or the ones actually in the spark plug valley?

EDIT: What Nick said, I don't think they really do anything:dunno: I'm sure someone here will know for sure.

They hold the spark plug boot on top of the galley.

You have to remove the cam covers to get to the head bolts.

And that's after you unhook the fuel rail and everything else.

I'm talking about the ones in the spark plug valley.

I have it all ready to be pulled off then. :)

Is there a spot for a screw driver or a pry bar between the head and block to pull it off without damaging anything, or do I need to do it all by hand?

It's really appreciated.

I needed to pry with a big screw driver but it didn't take much. I pried up front on the driver's side where the lower rear timing belt plate sticks out from under the head... just below where the alternator mounts.

Hammer..., Chizel. New belt sander and a dremel.

What else do you guys really need??? I have had a huge sand stone brought in.
It's one the ancient Incas used to use. They would lap the heads of there supras.
By fire light under a full moon using female urine to keep the stone wet.

Actually though. I had bumped mine with a rubber mallet.
I guess it depends on how badly the head is really blown.
