My my mechanic and I are getting ready to put my cylinder head back on and he was asking me about how much they need to be torqued down to. I said I'm pretty sure they should be at 80lbs. Then he asked about what degree they need to be turned to. Least I think that's that he said I'm not to sure. So is 80lbs good with arp bolts and a felpro gasket?! What about the degree thing he was talking about???

My ARP bolts I believe were 90ft/lbs. I did it in 3 increments. 30 then 60 then 90ft/lbs. Just read the instructions that came with them. And I don't think a felpro headgasket is very good. From what I have read anyway... A Toyota brand one has always been recommended when I read threads about people using a stock type gasket (not a metal headgasket).

Factory head bolts are supposed to be good to 72 ft lbs, and that's supposed to be adequate.

They are not degreed, since they are not torque to yield, like DSM or Honda head bolts often are. For example, the Neon that I just replaced the head gasket in this summer was torqued down, then you're supposed to turn the head bolts an additional 90 degrees, which stretches the bolts. This isn't how the 7M head bolts are done, so they're supposed to be re-useable.

Its supposed to be torqued to 90 ft lbs and some people even go through the drastic measures to run the car for an hour or so than re torque them

Nothing at all "drastic" about that, I run the engine through 5 full heat cycles keeping it out of boost then do a retorque, most times I find a couple of loose ones so it's well worth the effort and you don't build a Grenade.

That makes sense its nothing wrong with re torquing the head Im going to do it to mines also. I am going to take all measures to prevent a grenade.
