Head bolt retorque original HG...

Hey guys...

I was just looking for some opinions. Original owner, 1989 Turbo Supra. 148,000 miles. Used to be my wife's DD. Never raced or abused. This winter I replaced a number of hardened hoses, including a cracked accordian hose. The car has rarely seen anything above 4,000 RPM. For the last 5 or so years it has only been weekend driven.... very babied car it's whole life. Last comp test was good, last vac test we good, last pressure test on the cooling system was good... all done this past summer.

Should I worry at this point about retorqueing the head bolts?

Yes, she is still going to be driven the same way. No upgrades. She will remain stock until the day I die. I love her just the way she is.

A retorque is not a bad idea. That is one of the cleanest 150K motors I have seen. There are 2 givens that would lead me in that direction.

1. It is well documented that the original Toyota specs are not enough to properly hold the gasket.

2. You have put 150K miles on it.

You are to be commended though for achieving what must surely be a record with a 7M on an original gasket. What you are doing should give you some kind of confidence. The process is not difficult. We as a community would be glad to help you through it if you decide to go ahead with it.

How's the valves? Any smoke on startup? I'm always in favoring of killing two birds with one stone if possible.

That is one clean engine...

I would not torque the gasket down. Like IJ said, leave it alone.

i wouldnt touch it for now but if you want it to last.. i'd plan on doing the head gasket in the near future
