Is it worth it to get the Monster M1000? I've heard from numerous people that a guy would be well advised to pickup the best possible cable. I'm not 100% convinced its worth it...

It will be transferring signal from a HD sat box, and a Denon up converting DVD player to a Denon receiver. From the receiver to an HD TV.

I know some HDMI cables don't support true 1080p format, but is it worth it to get the top of the line hot stuff cable?

If someone can show me some good articles on it, or reasons why, i'll be sold...

in the mean-time i'm going to be doing more research of my own.

As far as i know, the reason for having ultra-shielded digital cables(HDMI, digital coax, Optical) is so it has absolutely no way of interfering with an analog signal in another cable.

Monster cables all come with a lifetime warranty and tend to last longer than anything else out there that I've come across. I don't think they are a rip-off, but are more than most people should spend connecting their components.

I'd say go with the 600 series HDMI. Its still got the mesh jacket on it and its well-insulated..... and its about 1/3 the price of the 1000 series if memory serves me. :)

These things are total BS. You can buy cables just as good off eBay for $3.

The reason cables cost so much is ridiculous - stores need to factor in the cost of the shelf space to store them. When they discovered that people were still buying cables at $30 each when the cost was $0.42 each, someone's light turned on.

Ever since then, cables have been going up in price, but not up in cost, and the gullible public is still buying into it.

Thanks for all the replies...

I suppose it would be worth mentioning that I will be paying 40% of retail price. That is what is causing the dilemma. If I was going to pay retail it would not even be a question.

40% off the cheap stuff means it REALLY cheap. :icon_bigg

But if you're good at shopping, 40% off the exspensive stuff saves you more money. Decisions, decisions...

I can tell you about Monster Cable, I got paid to sell and install Monster Cable for 5 years. Monster Cable is ALLLLLLL about the huge profit margin, period. I didn't see any better quality control with Monster Cable then any cheap Chinese cable you could buy at the swap meet, and I installed thousands of their products. Their car audio RCA cables were complete crap unless you bought the top of the line. Even on the top of the line it was obvious that the looks were more important then the functionality or durability. You can take 18 awg wires and put a tight twist on them with a drill, solder an RCA on each end and get a better sounding cable then the $100 Monster RCA's, and it will probably be better at rejecting noise. They wanted us to sell the Monster more then the product that the customer was going to hook the Monster up too. $400 in cables for a $300 amplifier was the goal of some people I worked with. There was a 60-70 point margin on it!!! The only thing more profitable in the whole store was selling ESP (extended service plans).

Now as far as HDMI goes, there was no such thing as HDMI back when I was selling Monster, it was all about the component cables. When I was at Orvac there was a line of good quality HDMI cables we stocked, it was about 1/2 the price of Monster, never had anyone complain or return one. I could see what they are going for, what length do you need?

yes they are BS

and cables in general are about profit, you learn this when working at the stores... sony wants people to think it wont work unless everything is sony.... aka paying twice the amount.

also i wont buy car audio at a store ever again... its marked up 50-80%. the worse is radio harnesses marked up %1000 compared to the rest of stuff thats usually 15-20% (in the rest of the store, companies sometimes determine the 'sales' that go on and refund the stores the money... happens alot with cameras)
