I can't get it open inside neither with the key and I'm getting water inside where the spare tire is.I got the 3 pieces tailights and it's a pain in the ass to take out the tailights.

First things first, you need to get the hatch open so you can repair the latch. Otherwise you'll have to cut the plastic around the latch so you can remove the panel. Can you open the hatch with the lever that sits next to the driver's seat?

he said he can't get it open from the inside or the key if I'm deciphering that right.

Is it siezed and you can't get it open? Or can you turn the key and it just doesn't do anything. If its the 1st of the two just try put some elbow grease into it. I've seen some get fairly tough to open and not open at all with the lever.

Like he said though, if its the second on. You'll have to find some way to get the panel off the inside so you can repair the lock.

For some reason my key would'nt work in the passenger side door or the hatch. I actually bent the key trying to open the hatch. But my lever worked.

Maybe there's some slack in the cable that connects to the lever. Try pulling on the cable if you can get to it.

Interesting; does anyone know if the mk3 came with a valet key?

On the hatch lock, If you turn the key to the left and then back to center and remove it, the inside lever (by the drivers seat) will be disengaged. I WOULD NOT DO THAT IF I WERE YOU !!!!!!! till you get the key working properly.

when i got my car, the PO had snapped a key off in the hatch lock cylinder.
the lever didnt work, so i had to crawl in through the back and pull off the rear panel. it's real easy to do.
just remove all the little screw covers and the screws. there is about a .25" piece of plastic that goes around the striker on the latch. get a pair of wire cutters, or if you're lucky like i was, just give it a good tug. mine split clean at the skinny portion. i pulled that out and pulled the latch lever by hand.

that's the only way to do it.

Yes

The master key works in every lock. The sub-key will not work in the glovebox.
To protect things locked in the glovebox when you have your vehicle parked, leave the subkey with the attendant.
Since the doors can be locked without a key, you should always carry a spare master key in case you accidentally lock your keys inside the vehicle.

edit: i think i read somewhere that the sub key will not work for the hatch either.
