I'm 22 years old, and my hair is thinning on the top of my head. My family has hair loss but not the generation before me. In other words, my grandpa lost his hair.

Has anyone SUCCESSFULLY used rogaine or any other hair loss product?

I searched online for answers, but I'm not sure if it's just advertising to generate sales or true stories.

Thanks guys

Haha, I am losing my hair like crazy. I would love answers too. Every hair dresser I have ever talked to has said the only stuff that works shampoo wise costs upwards of 50 dollars a bottle and doesn't last very long. It is a sad story, I don't have that much money to spend on beauty products, haha.

rogaine only works for certain types of hairloss. Mainly on the back end of the top of your head so if you're receeding or just generally losing it all over on the top they don't recommend it. PS, anyone wanna buy a 4 months supply rogaine foam for doods (4 2.11oz can's. One of the cans has been used like 3 times but it's pretty much full) contact me. It's going to waste just sitting in my closet.

see a nutritionist, diet and excercise do play a part in hair loss-
talk to your doctor and try to ger finasteride ( propecia), give it a long enough time to see results. 6 months or so
take pictures weekly, if you don't grow hair, but dont lose any either, then its working.
In the long run you still might go bald, genetics are a bitch, but give it a fight.

--edit--
finasteride also lowers the risk of prostate cancer,
rogaine and propecia work on both crown and hairline loss, just not as effectively on one as the other.

About 8 years ago I had a roommate who used.. Nioxin, maybe? It came with a strainer that you put in the shower drain so you could possibly see how much was or was not coming out of your head after showers [this is probably the time when the most hair comes out of your head]. I always thought stuff like this was wishful thinking in a bottle, but who knows? Best of luck to you!

Over the past 10 years my hairline has receded a little bit, but luckily I don't think baldness has been a problem in my family. Just in case though, if anyone has had any good experiences with these products, please post them!

Lol, why do you have that much rogaine just lying around in your closet?! How much is it even worth?

I realize that diet and exercise play a part in hair loss - but my hair loss is pretty much insane and I exercise daily... and have a very good diet. It just pisses me off to see all my hair pretty much gone!

Take it from a hair thinning man at age 25. Don't try and hide it. If your hair is going thin than let it go thin and get a short or buzz cut. The worst thing you can do is try and hide it.
I will tell you that there is a old Caribbean treatment for hair loss that entails rubbing chicken shit on your skin for hair growth. I found a study on the AMA (American Medical Association) website that showed some positive results but I can't find the link now. It can't hurt go ahead and give it a try.

Studies have shown that women are more likely to fuck a man that is bald, than a man who has chicken shit on his head. I don't have a link to the study at the moment, but common sense rules this argument.

I lose my hair in clumps in the fall/winter time, but nearly nothing in the warmer weather.

You have boobs, why worry about hair?
Well, I kinda take that back, hair is by far one of the most attractive things on a woman aside from the other nice features...

A guy I used to work with used Propecia and grew all his hair back. He was very thin from front to back. He quit using it because of the expense and eventually just shaved his head. I am beginning to thin and my hairline is receding. I shouldn't bitch since I'm 40 and have as much as I still do. Oh, with Propecia I read there is a risk of having trouble getting it up.

Mods feel free to delete this post at yourj discrecion.. but the whole assumption that women are more attracted to bald men than hair's dood's is a COMPLETE LIE.. They try to tell you that to make you feel better.. I remember when i told my girlfriend about my "problem", she was completely understanding, even though i thought she'd thow me out right away. Anywho0ooooo... it's about a year later.. i still have an okay amount of hair on my head and i try to keep it up but it's just so hard sometimes.. I'd think it'd be better if your problem only arose during intercourse, just continue until you both noticed change... My GF didn't mind too much, in fact she helped me a LOT... I guess the smart thing to do is just wait until the time is right..
Signing 0ff quite drunk... Me..

I don't exercise, and haven't done so in years.

I understand that it affects hormones, but what does it have to do with hair loss?

BTW, I've been saying I'm gonna hit the gym for a while. I need some exercise anyway.

So exercise helps?

nice one about the bald vs. chicken poop study. hahaha

My hair was receding a little in my early 20's so my doctor prescribed propecia. It will not grow hair back but it will prevent production of some chemical in your body (can't remember what it's called DHT?) that shrinks your hair folicles. When the folicles shrink, your hair is more easily removed from your head. If you take propecia, your folicles stay fuller (larger) and secure your hair to your scalp more effectively. If you start taking propecia it will only help you keep the hair you have, you will not grow additional hair. Also, once you start using it, you have to keep using it.

Luckily in Canada, a medication called Proscar exists that is the same as propecia and is covered by most medical plans if you have one. The only difference between the two is that one proscar tablet equals 4 propecia tablets so you need to cut the proscar four ways. I have used it for years and don't lose any hair anymore.

I read on Wiki, that propecia has some side effects that come along with it... and I am not sure what to really believe. What has been your experience with side effects? Can you still get it up? Have you started developing "mammory glands?" It also ventured to say that you don't want to have kids if your on that medication...

Is there any truths to any of that?
