Has anyone ever wired in a low oil sensor?

I have seen online that it's been std equipment in quite a few cars, like BMW's, Audi's, VW's, and even Toyotas like the Previa and others.
I was worried about cutting into the oil pan at the right height, and then worried about sealing issues, but then i found this item, originally made for aircraft engines:

The nice thing is, it's 12volt capable, and comes with the warning light(if you want it). Has anyone done something like this? Would it make sense?

I think I heard once upon a time that European Supras had such a sensor stock. Don't take my word on it though. Maybe Lange will post up.

i think this would be hard to calibrate? unless you get the pan or whatever its mounter on. i think it would be a big hassel when you could wire a low oil pressure sensor or put on a oil pressure gauge

Yeah, I had a crazy oil leak once. My front crank seal blew out while driving from Charlotte to Atlanta in the middle of the night. I lost 3 quarts before I noticed the oi pressure was reading only slightly lower than normal.

There has been plenty of controversy over this liitle item. Some manufacturers went so far as to integrate it into the starting system. Caused too many customer service issues. Could be a nice tool but can also be another point for a leak.

the pan wouldnt happen to have a bolt plugging the whole that is in the middle of the pan would it??? cuz my JDM engine has a bolt in the center of the pan above the oil drain plug................if so im definately gonna have to get the sendor and screw it in place maybe................................

The item I linked to above goes vertically into the pan, so it would have to have the threaded bung welded into the bottom. As for point of leak, not a problem. It's a simple NPT thread, and you could just screw it in with some teflon tape or thread seal liquid and be done with it.

Even if you switched pans and screwed in the sender, what about the other end of things? The signal has to go somewhere, so where's it go and how do you hook it up?
