Ok lets start by saying that this is my first ever supra. It's a 7mgte, 5speed, targa. I took a terrible hit on this deal and am trying to salvage this build/restoration. Got it home and it shortly developed a lower end knock, and is bleeding its guts out on oil. Second weekend of owning it engine is on the ground and torn down. Head is shot (0.025" out and been milled once before). Pistons pitted and crank keyway destroyed. Anyway, I'm starting to go back together with the car. Ordered a Japanese spec 7mgte from an engine company. New engine had less than 30k on it...or so I've been told. It is a complete engine (turbo, intake, accessories, harness, ecu...ect). I have a list of questions to ask so here they are. Please keep in mind that I do not want to tear down the new engine unless I have to. My old block is still good and that will be my build. Right now I just want my baby back on the road.
Any advise on maintenance to the new engine (oil pump, water pump, belts...ect)?
The harness it came with is for an auto trans and the connectors are gray and do not match my old manual trans ecu. The harness is in emaculant shape and already routed and my old one is junk. What are my options here?
My trans is in rough shape. Was going to have it built so long as the damage isnt to bad. Was starting to lose 5th and Rev on the way home. Thinking maybe the synchros are going out. And how do you determine a W58 from an R154? Stupid enough question but as I said...First supra.
I need a wiring diagram/schematic for the alternator. I'm a technician and have access to all data but it doesnt list the alternator shematics and the previous owner had it rigged (wired tied) and I want it done right.
I have stripped the engine bay to have some damages fixed were the previous owner bottomed it out and crushed the intercooler. What all can I do away with and it still run right but make my engine bay look a bit less cluttered?
