Hey everyone, I'm sure this has been posted a few times, but I could'nt find anything on it. Well, my harmomic balancer (I believe that's what it's called) in my GTE is shaking like the devils dwarers. I'm suprised that it has'nt popped off! Anyways, I have a spare 7M-GE motor laying around, I was wondering if I could take that off HB and pop it into my GTE. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I come from a land down under
The Key is a semi circular piece of Steel and the Keyway is the Groove it sites in and another on the inside of the balancer to stop it spinning.

Usually if the balancer has been run loose it shags out these parts allowing it to move.

(not 7M parts just for illustration)

Check the keyway in both the HD & the crank. If the one on the HD is ate up, get a different one. If the one in the crank is ate up, well, JB Weld might be your new buddy....

eh, JBWeld can't answer every prayer. If it's chewed up too badly, there's almost nothing that'll save it, even if you had new metal welded in.

^yup, keyway munched on the crank for a week (had no other options, no car to borrow, no one to drive hubby to work, no money to fix).

day before he got paid it couldn't stay in time long enough to get him out of his works parking lot.

I went through the same thing several years ago. Lost a piece out of the crank big enough for the key to lay in completely. Also, the area on the crank where the pulley went ended up ovaled as well. JB Weld would hold for several weeks and this went on for several months as it was my only transport and had no money to fix. When I had the engine rebuilt they had to replace the crank, pulley and lower timing cover and cost an extra $700 or so.

Well, if anybody is interested, I might make a documentatiion of the build up of my car. Funny thing is, I might not do it for awhile. I got a new car, totally unecpected. But if anybody is interested, follow close. And I will get that harmonic damper DONE one day. Soon hopefully.

I'm loath to ask this, BUT..... on a rotating assembly like the crank/dampener, what the best way to get 197 ft/lbs of torque?
