Guaging Interest in a Parts Weight Database

Hey guys, I'm going to be a Supra owner in a few weeks, and am also the proud owner of a Miata. Before you comment on that, I'd like to mention it's a bit lightened wearing Falken Azenis, which makes it a killer machine on the twisties.

Now, I haven't compiled a big database of part weights, and common weight reduction things for the Miata, but I'm thinking about doing that for the Supra.

Is anyone interested in having a database like this available, so you can get a general target for weight reduction by checking off the things (from a stock car) that you'll be deleting?

As a web developer, it shouldn't be too terribly hard. The biggest deal would be confirming user submissions.

Is this tool worth the time? Anyone interested in being a serious contributor?

Thanks!

it would be sick if you could get ahold of the person who half-assed the current one and add on to it.

I was going to do that...I weighed all my pistons, rods, bearings, rings....
I wanted to weigh every component on the car to help find ways to drop the weight.
But my electronic grams scale goes upto to 5lbs.

I usually do that at work with all our components to help produce the lightest dish as part of our design process.

Cheers,
Roy

For most practical purposes, the large weight savings that can be found on the chassis is my primary concern.

You do bring up an interesting utility the site could have though. Being able to track the weights of numerous rotating assemblies....

I'm putting some thought into the interface right now. Screenshots soon. :icon_razz

Right on, web based util that would just pole from a DB of parts and their corrisponding weights would be useful. Who/How would people submit to this database? Maybe a free signup wiki style where any user could submit or vote on changes?
