I just got a rebuilt 7M-GE running in my '84 MK2 yesterday. It idles very smoothly and sounds great throughout the rev range except when I let the revs drop very suddenly. If I rev it up to about 4,000 and then let off the gas completely, as the revs drop the engine makes an odd grinding sound. It's not horribly loud, and my friend who has been working with me on the car doesn't think it's a problem, but I wanted to see if anyone else has ever heard the same thing and might know what's causing it and if it's normal.
