My name is Paul. I live in Livermore CA. I joined so that I would be able to find other Supra owners in the area for tech tips, and to find trusted mechanics and machine shops. I bought my Supra from a junkyard in Vallejo for $1000, so there's a slew of problems that I am working on with this car, and some are beyond my ability.
Thanks!

Welcome to Supramania. You shouldn't have any problem finding supra owners that live near you. California is infested with MKIII's.

I'm having serious problems with a mechanic who basically refuses to change my front wheel bearings. You seem to be a very active member here, so I'm hoping that you might be able to give me some good advice. Below is the link to the post I made.

My car is still at this shop! I want to check the bearings myself now, but can't find a proceedure. The car is so old that I'm just assuming that the low pitch whirring is the wheel bearings, and that I should replace both front bearings.

Welcome check out cencalsupras.com

Wheel bearings just grab at 12 and 6 and push in and out.

The wheel does not move, and the mechanic said that there wasn't anything he could see wrong with them. When I get up to about 55mph there is a low pitch wirring noise, with a vibration that you can feel. Any ideas? I just rebuilt the front suspension, and new ball joints too. The control arms seemed to be fine, I could be wrong though. Could it be something as simple as the wheels being out of alignment? After rebuilding the suspension, the steering was still rock solid, let go of the steering wheel at 80 on the freeway as long as I wanted without any deviation. Could it be that simple?
