That's just about right...when boosting you'll see it go to the 750 deg C range.
900 deg C is the limit in my book.

Where did you install the probe at?

If you have good fuel pressure, the #6 cylinder is no more likely to lean out than the rest ;)
That location is fine, but be aware you are reading EGT off of one cylinder...not a big deal really.

The best location IMO is on the turbine snail...the bottom, just past the flange to exhaust manifold. You get an "average" EGT in this location. Mounting the probe after the turbo will result in low EGT readings...about 100 deg C low.

I'll stick with mine. like I said really thats where I feel it will lean out before any other cylinder, and yes I have a decent fuel system to back it up but if I ever have a problem I will know it. O well to all his own I guess. Everyone is intitled to his/her opinion right? LoL damn it's early for me.

Like I said, locating the probe on the #6 exhaust manifold runner is fine, it's just reading one cylinder. Most people put it there or the #5 runner because it's easier to get to without removing the manifold.

If there's a reason the #6 cylinder would lean out vs the rest, I'd like to hear the logic behind it. ;)

i instaslled mine on the elbow just next to the O2 sensor i was told about the #6 runner but that would mean taking the turbo and manifold off i hardly have time to work on it, but when im ready to instal the new 60-1 turbo i will get another manifold and have it tapped in the #6 runner. but for now thats where is at...lol how much diffrence is there?

I was just thinking about EGT guages the other day. Some years back people used to run these as a measure of tuning. People used to say to tap into your #1 exhuast runner. They used to say that it was that cylinder that would overheat first is things were to get too lean. I guess their theory was since it was the first one to fire it would be the first one to tell you things were getting hot. Do 7m's #1 & 6 cylinder fire at the same time?

The 7M firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4...the theory of tapping into the #1 runner based on firing order will give you a reading measured in milliseconds ahead of the other cylinders. There's not an automotive EGT gauge on the market able of reacting that fast.

If you're going to tap in a runner (for whatever reason), it really doesn't matter which one. If I were to do that (which I won't), I'd pick the easiest to get to.

I'm with supra90turbo...the manifold collector or turbine inlet is the place to tap for an EGT probe.

it's made of unobtanium... who knows?! it won't melt. type-k thermocouple is all i can say to sound smart.
Let's just say it'll handle more heat than your pistons can. :icon_razz

Is that as rare as obsecureium? :biglaugh:

Just curious. I was just wondering if there was a chance of it heating up too much pre-turbo and sending molten metal into the exhaust blades of it ;).

Not from heat...if you are unlucky enough to get a defective probe...well, not much you can do about that ;)
