what would gray smoke out of the exhaust mean while im boosting? burning oil? cause the shop that changed my oil said the car had very very low oil in it,, and there is no oil leak that is visible.

Turbo engines will use some oil.Im sure even newer turbo motors will use some oil.Even honda dohc vtecs use a little oil. Gray smoke is usually just fuel smoke that is normally associated with turbod cars. When under boost, turbo motors run rich. Oil smoke is normally blue or in extreme cases of oil burning it can be white. Its very critical that you always keep an eye on you 7m's oil level.

Grey oil smoke would be bad rings then correct? I know valve seal smoke is blue..but shit mine was white it was burning so much oil. And turbo oil smoke is blue as well?

So what is the desired amount of oil supposed to be in the oil indicator inside our car? and what number should you never let it get lower than? Sorry bout the jack, just thought because it's relevant i'd ask.

Thanks.

(not trying to hi-jack.. i figure we have same issue so trying to get things figured out)
okay I'm having the same issue .. Grey smoke.. not DURING boost. but as soon as i let off the gas AFTER boosting. (the longer I Boost the more grey smoke) it'll go POOF lots of smoke.. then trail off after a bit.. sometimes Idling it'll smoke.. i rev to about 2k for a couple seconds and it stops smoking.. I'm deploying soon so haven't really bothered investigating. (already replaced a turbo) so.. bad rings? engine runs GREAT though.. aside from the smell and smoke i couldn't tell anything was bad.

Grey smoke on decel is a poor pcv system or dying turbo.

Engine Piston Rings cause grey smoke when they start to leak, white smoke when they fail.

Front turbo seals (compressor side) cause grey smoke when they start to leak.

Rear turbo seals (turbine side) cause white smoke when they start to leak.

my rebuilt head burns ZERO oil...

The valvestem seal on these cars can be hell, as most people ignore them. I thought I had valvetrain noise when it was actually the metal casings to the valve stem seals bouncing around on the shaft. Most of them where either rock hard, or completely gone....

SOme bad overheats, low on oil, ect can destroy em, and you never know how bad the previous owners where to the car...
