so i got rid of the svx for $1000 bucks...so now im looking for something around......well $1000 bucks, i was lookin at explorers because theres a bunch of them, they dont look too bad and parts are probably arent going to be as bad as an svx ;). What do you guys think of those? maybe a jimmy? bronco? blazer? jeep (my dad had a jeep it was Crap)...i would love a 4runner but they're up there..."cant afford atm range"

So if you guys have any good info. that would be great.

I'd say the Eddie Bauer "Limited Edition" seats are worth the total of the rest of the vehicle.

Would an old explorer be that much more reliable than an N/A supra? I thought those were notorius for being total P.O.S. in about every single aspect possible?

Either way, good luck and hope it doesn't die on ya :)

Explorers are shit. Especially the 4.0L v6
I would get a Jeep or a GM SUV if I were you. Buy a Blazer, if it is a v6 look for coolant/oil mix carefully, if it looks good buy it and and replace the intake manifold gasket with a fel-pro(anything besides GM gasket). GM made 23 vehicles between 95-03 with faulty intake manifold gaskets which allowed coolant into the oil. (Only v6's)

Good luck, hope you get a good reliable vehicle.

I agree with the pathfinder!! I had a 94 and it was great, very roomy and very reliable. I would stay away from exploders I have know several people that have owned them and they were all not happy. I also worked for a dealership a few years ago and the blazers/jimmy's were on the do not buy list because they were such crap. I have also known several people that have had the blazer ect all not happy. I am confused on the jeep being junk??? The 4.0 liter is a great engine aside from rear main problems. The trannys might be a bit week but still they are good solid SUV's. But my first choice would be a pathfinder, or an older montero. Whatever you choose good luck....:icon_bigg

I would steer clear of S10 Blazers. Plain and simple.
I work at a GM dealer and I see these things all the time. If it's not in the shop, then a local garage is calling for parts.

Intake manifold gaskets leaking coolant into the oil, oil cooler lines leaking, ball joints (upper and lower) wheel bearings....

I would suggest NOT going with Fel-Pro, and indeed going with GM gaskets.
If you saw the revised GM gaskets, you'd understand.
They're aluminum with silicone seals, instead of plastic with rubber.
Also, like Toyota FIPG, use the GM "Assembly Adhesive" PN 12346141 list-$12.04

I guess its just them rednecks that "duct tape their cars" and they finally ruin just about everything. We maintain ours preaty good, and never had any problems with them.
