Yes you can. That's what I'm doing. I have my new google #, 7203355991 forwarded to my existing cell. So I have two numbers associated with my single cell.

What's Google voice? I didnt see anything on google itself...
Google Voice is still in Beta phase and is currently on an "invite only" status. Which means either get in line or find someone who has a few favors from google. I did the latter.
Google voice allows you to do many things.
-Text transcribed voicemails, meaning you leave me a voicemail and I get a text and/or email that has your call transcribed into text. It only takes a few seconds too!
-Free sms from your computer. It's threaded, of course. records of all incoming/outgoing are all archived as well. (Don't use it for anything too sensitive, but then again since the Patriot Act, NOTHING is safe from prying eyes/ears, so what the fuck does it matter anyway...)
-Infinite records of calls made/recieved/missed with time, dates, duration etc...
-You can set different voice mail greetings for any given group or single contact. (So when my roommate calls, he hears, "Will, you're a fag. Leave me a message and I'll listen to it while I do your mom in the ass." BUT WHEN AN EMPLOYER calls me they hear, "Hi you've reached Andrew Jacobson, please leave a message..."
-You can have blocked numbers REQUIRE a collect call style ID tag before you take their call. (Virtually automatic spam blocker)
-Send sms, make a call from your computer
And all of this is 100% FREE.
Google will rule the world soon. Which may not be great, but it's a hell of a lot better than the current governments running it...
