so after realizing my volvo is too damn slow, missing driving stickshift, and hearing how many people love their supras, i realized it would be in my best interest to have one. i'm done with school as of the middle of june, starting a job, and plan to buy a 7mgte longblock to do work on at first.

my plan is to get all the preemptive work like hg replacement, bearings, balancing, etc done while i still have my volvo, and then sell the volvo to pay for the rest of the stuff to go from engine to complete supra mkIII so that i have minimum downtime between cars.

planning to do:
downpipe, cat-back, intake, boost controller, bigger bov, intercooler. mild upgrades to start, and then i can do turbo / piston / fuel system mods later on if the money / time is available.

my questions are:

what can you guys recommend as far as jdm importers? right now i am looking at go-motors (www.japaneseusedengines.com) because they have a 7mgte longblock for 775, and ithey are within driving distance of me so i can pick it up. i haven't been able to find anything very useful as far as people's experience with buying engines. i'm located in south orange county CA, and i'd much prefer to pick an engine up from somewhere.

is there any other work i can do while i have the engine only? already i'm planning to replace main bearings / rod bearings, all gaskets, and balancing the rods. anything else i can do? i'm hoping to avoid machine shop work since i'm keeping stock bore / pistons, and the engine is supposed to be in good condition already.

as far as piggyback ECUs for when i've got everything together, it sounds like the greddy e-manage blue would be my best / easiest option for tuning once the car is built? i would be able to have a laptop for tuning, so thats no issue. what are everyone's thoughts about using the emanage with a 7mgte?

i might think of more questions later but for now this is all i have that i couldn't find on here or supraforums. hope i'm not sounding completely retarded.

alright here's what i'm looking at getting to do my build up all at once. this is everything i currently have in mind except for the rolling chassis

Exhaust - Blitz nur-spec
Intake - Apexi power intake
Downpipe - BIC Performance DDP
BOV - HKS SSQV
Boost Controller - Greddy Profec B-II
Driver's Seat - Sparco Fighter
Driver's Harness - Autopower Industries Pro-Cam
Roll Bar / Harness Bar - Autopower Industries Street-Sport
Bearings - Clevite rod bearings and main bearings
Complete gasket set

i want to run the stock fuel system / turbo for now, with the possibility to upgrade later. how does that list look so far? did i forget anything?

do a little reading and you'll find the Z, and moreso the 2006 Z, is having problems with something in the VQ35 engine's design. they consume oil like crazy, some more than others. i drove mine like a normal person for 4300 miles, and one day it started making a bad noise. oil light never came on, oil pressure gauge never dropped, engine never overheated, and when i had checked the dipstick a week or so before, all was fine. nissan is replacing the longblock and cats under warranty.

weird.
Well, it's a good thing they're replacing it.
What is the problem that causes it to consume so much oil?

Wow, that really sucks, sounds like my buddy's problem with his 300ZX....all the valves went dead, and he has to replace the timing chain every other month

And the local dealer tries charging him double the labor rate because "They only have one mechanic that remembers working on those"

He still regrets not buying a Supra :icon_bigg
