My glove box is stuck in valet mode or whatever you want to call it. I cant open my glove box without the key and it drives me nuts. How can I make it open with the button and not need to use the key every time?? I dont have an owners manual and it only turns counter clockwise from 12 o clock to 9 o clock. Should it turn both ways??

mine will either turn clockwise or counterclockwise from key vertical position. i just had to play around with mine for a while to get it to unlock correctly.

Guys......mine was exactly the same way and it drove me nuts.

The solution: 1 quick squirt of WD40 inside the glovebox keyhole. This loosened up everything and now it works perfectly!

Best is graphite spray (made for locks)

The Supramania classifieds is full of parts cars, and a glove box won't cost you too much usually. If it is grey, I have a working lock mechanism I'd sell for $10 shipped.

For those that the WD40/Graphite don't solve the problem. It's probably broken plastic tab in the locking mechanism.

You can get a hacksaw blade. Pull the glove box down a little so you can see the bracket. Cut the bracket BE CAREFULL. Go to any junkyard get replacement or order new one from toyota. Either way you won't have to change out the whole glove box. Used to have the pics somewhere. Doh!!:3d_frown:

Scott good luck finding a shadow grey glove box.:evil2:
