Sup everyone. I was thinking of making a custom exhaust to 3'' of 4''. I came across the glasspack mufflers, but I haven't seen anything from them. I did a search here and I just got some pictures, nothing about performance, or sound. Can anyone help me out?

Glass packs are definately not good for performance, they are a super primative baffling system on the in side.

Um no. Most glass packs are just a flow through tube with another perferorated (sp?) tube inside. Between the two tubes is glass insulation.

They tend to either quiet down the exhaust note, or change the note all together depending on where in the exhaust stream they are installed and what size the perforations are inside.

^^^^ they can perform just fine, because the system is 'straight through'.
They just bring the noise down, because the fiberglass 'absorbs' the sound 'waves'. I run a 24" long one in the system right under my console.

Then a magnaflow 'strait through' muffler at the back. So my system is actually strait through with no restrictions in exhaust gas flow.

And I love the deep sound it has.

My exhaust system consists of a 3 inch downpipe, three inch pipe back to a 3 inch glasspack to a 3 inch tip.

its loud as hell but it sounds oh so sweet

Look into a shiny N1 or other canister...look down a glass pack. Same appearance, same performance. They are not stainless, but for actual attenuation and sound deadening, they should do fine for 2-3 years...expect to have to replace them from time to time, but at $20-40 a shot, they make economic sense for all go no show!

most glass packs (traditionally) are louvered, not perferated. this causes a lot of tumbling of gases, giving it that distinct sound. bullet type mufflers use a perferated core w/ either steel wool or fiberglass matting (IMO look and sound like ass on a 7m by themselves) but make a great resonator. can-type mufflers have a greater pressure drop (due to more volume) and quieter (due to more material absorbing sound due to increased volume). i could go on, but i'm sure you get the point.
