I just bought my first supra MKIII, and while taking the turbo off for a rebuild i noticed some ghetto rigged wires and what looks like a distributer cap or cps cover missing, i was wondering where these wires go and if or where i can get this cap at

Missing front heatshield = fryed wiring harness on exhaust side.

Looks like mine did, just that most of the sensors crumbled on mine as well...

for the cps, you can either buy a used one here in the for sale section... or driftmotion makes a fancy shiney cover for it.
those sensors on the water neck (where the thermostat goes), should have matching connectors on the wiring harness.
the other mess of damaged or melted wires.... i have no idea and recommend getting a newer wiring harness

You can still fix the harness you have depending on how patient you are......But if you are a novice with wiring (like me) I would strongly recommend making some friends at you local Toyota dealer and buying a new harness. As far as your CPS cover goes....they are not very expensive at the dealer.....they come with the rubber gasket and if i recall correctly cost around $10-12. If the sensors do not have matching connectors like Pete suggested then i would consult the tech manual. If you break a sensor dont worry, they are universal Toyota sensors. If you go to the Scrap yard you can pull some from Camry's and other Toyota's of similar years to our Supra. Just FYI. Good Luck :icon_bigg

Am i right in assuming that the wires with no connectors most likely connect to those two sensors, my temp gauge works fine what are these sensors for exactly?

it looks like the black one is the coolant sensor for the ecu

try browsing through the tsrm and you can find a bunch of info.

I'm sure someone can chime in on the other sensors though.

Poodles nailed it right from the start. The front heat shield he is referring to is the one that should be covering the front half of the exhaust manifold. You really need that one. You can rebuild that end of the harness, but more than likely you will struggle with the CPS wiring that is one of the bigger pains in the ass of this harness. You will have to get the connections at the thermo housing fixed if you want to ever see the car run right. I'd strongly recommend finding a better harness. You could patch it for a while, while you keep an eye out for a good harness in the for sale section. I got one that had been bought new about a year before being sold. I paid a lil bit more than I would have for the every day used harness, but it was well worth it, and saved me hundreds over buying a new one.

ive been looking for a harness in the for sale section and have found one but since i just sank all my money into the car itself and the turbo rebiuld i will have to wait a few weeks till i can get my funds up, hopefully it wont be sold or a new one will be posted by then, until then i will get the colors of those wires and hopefully someone will be able to tell me where to connect them, i have a basic knowledge of electrical.

More missing pieces for the thread, this one i believe is the egr but im pretty sure there should be a block off plate no wonder the previous owner said he was making 9mpg. And i got the color of those broken wires that go nowhere here are the pics

bottom one above looks like the switches for the ac lines that should run right next to the passenger fenderwell.

this things a bit of a rats nest, but by far better then most mkIII i looked at locally. you might consider sending it out for repair, but at least get those sensors plugged back in!

ohh and that blue plug on the front elbow looks like it was for the egr . cant recall off the top of my head what it did for the egr, but 99% its part of the egr system

Damn looks like i bit off more then i can chew, bought this supra because my civic brokedown and i didnt feel like fixing it(and i wanted more power) now im starting to fing so many problems, so the purple w/red and yellow wires are for the a/c, so where where do the other two go?

there should be two plugs coming off the same y going into the harness. the big thing is the ecu coolant sensor and making sure the cps is not cooked. then you can work from there. 9mpg screams somthing isnt right though. is the o2 wireing still intact?

The o2 wiring is intact(looks relativly new) but is spliced for a narrowband, which one is the ecu coolant temp sensor the black or blue, and what color wires should be running to it, also if the cps was fried would the car run?
thanks in advance

That black one that sticks perfectly out at 90 degrees (new ones are actually white!) the connector is green and when i get home ill check what my wire colors are.

I wonder if your stuck in a warm up mode because of this, jdub would be better suited to explain all the "sourcery":runaway: that goes on with the ecu modes.

If the ECU doesn't have a temp reading it assumes normal operating temp (making cold starts tough, and it won't know to pull timing if it's getting too hot, though if it detects knock it will)

now that you mention it it was really hard to start cold(killed my battery) but i had assumed it was cause the turbo was leaking so much oil, it smoked hard at start up. I was looking into getting an egr hopefully from the for sale section but i need to get my funds up first, i also need injectors and probably a wiring harness so this supra is gonna end up costing me alot more then i had anticipated but im in love with it already so.....

Well reading the tsrm I've figured out that the brown and green wires are for the ecu temp sensor my question is does it matter which male end I connect these wires to? Or do I just connect either one I know the sensor is just a resistor that changes resistance with temp change but will current run in either direction?

well i guess i might as well just try it cant do any harm. i will hook it up and see if it starts easier when cold and maybe clear my codes then check them again with my super moniter
