sounds like the fan clutch is bad. With the engine hot and shut off, pop the hood and try to spin the fan with your hand. if it spins real easy the clutch is probably shot.

When traveling at highway speeds your motor is getting cooled by the air rushing in naturally. When you hit stop and go, the fan isnt moving enough air to keep the thing cool.

Either change it out for stock or wire up an electric fan. That should solve the problem.

People are so quick to jump on that BHG issue. Sure its a real problem, but rule out the easy stuff first. Certainly if he continues to heat cycle that motor that way its not gonna help it at all, but there is no reason to jump on the BHG bandwagon just yet.

His symtoms are completely explained by a bad fan clutch.

If the fan clutch is good it should spin a little for like half a sec and then slow down and stop fast right? The reason I ask this because that's what mine does.

Thermoviscous fans are problematic - and i've just bought an electric fan for mine - much less hassle. At least with Supra's you dont have to use a 36mm thin cranked spanner like i had to on my old Ford Sierra XR4x4 - that was a pain in the ass!!
