Okay, just a question about the mentioned items. Now i'm a guessing that the BOV is to regulate the amount of pressure that is in the intake side of the turbo, does the wastegate to the same on the exhaust? A buddy of mine stumped me on this, and all I could do was put my hands over my ears and scream aloud LALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU LALALALA

Close, but not quite.

The wastegate controls how much exhaust goes to spinning the turbo, which basically controls what kind of flow the turbo is producing.

The BOV is used to prevent compressor surge during shifts. When you shift, usually the throttle plate is shut for an instant - during that instant, compressed air builds up in the intake tract until it backs into the turbo compressor, causing surge. Surge is bad, it kills turbos. So, they put a BOV in there to let the pressure out someplace other than backflowing the turbo.

Hope that helps.

For some good turbo knowledge check out a book called "Maximum Boost". I think it was written by a fellow named Corky Bell. It is a must have if you're entering the world of turbos. Also, if you good at math he has about 9 million formulas to figure out different aspects of turbos, tempatures, flow numbers, etc...

There are boost controller valves that relieve pressure on the intake side. I just can't remember what the technical name is right now...:dunno: It's set to open at x psi and when the pressure reaches that psi, it opens, like a wastegate for the intake side. Just more insurance to keep overboosting from happening.
