how come my thread was locked?

i wanted to respond to this posted by Disced

And if you can't take off-topic w/ a grain of salt, you probably should find yourself a new forum which is a litttttle more serious, aye?

im not talking about off topic, i was talking about all the crap people are polluting this forum with. by forum i mean all of supramania.

all i see is the blind leading the blind, and honestly when the questions are so stupid they dont even warrant an answer other than the idiotic answers they are receiving its not even worth it to correct some of these people.

in other words, its no use helping idiots and people who dont want to be helped, or are too stubborn to take the advice given to them.

the problem is there is currently a large number of extremely uneducated people on here not only asking questions (which is good) but are answering the questions as well (NOT GOOD).

hopefully this is just a phase supramania will break out of soon.

It's like that on every forum I've ever been on, there are always people who think they know but don't really know.

well for a while on here the signal to noise ratio was very good. recently its been very bad.

i havent lost all hope though. im waiting it out.

for what its worth, when it comes to moderation i think people who post incorrect information over and over again should be made read only.

That was the idea behind the rep system. Unfortunately, that's been so abused that it stopped being useful.

We can't really make people read only, how could they post questions?

funny, i was going to post in the other thread about the rep system but decided against it. it is a great example of some of the people currently on here polluting this board.

i think abusers and non contributors, mainly people who post incorrect information should be made read only.

if they really want to ask a question if after searching they find no answer, they can PM a mod and ask to have their posting privelage back.

If anyone out there is independantly wealthy that they can afford to pay enough to have the staff on a full time salary, we'll move over to a fully moderated board, where each and every post is reviewed by the staff before it is made public.

This is easily doable.

So as soon as that multi-millionaire steps up to the plate, your wishes will come true.

oh i understand that it might not be very practical, and i do not blame the mods for it.

i just wanted to express how i feel about it. maybe some of the people aware of the garbage they post might cut back a little? maybe im too optimistic however.

I know exactly what you mean. This forum has turned into quite the "spamming" website. People post in threads, ie hellslegion, and have no REAL reason to post there. Its really irritating. Its one thing in the off topic, but another thing when it starts leaking into build threads and other stuff.

The rep system turned into a popularity contest, not an informative technical tool.

As soon as my build is over, im off this forum.

I LOVE supramania, jsut unfortunatly, theres about 20 people who have made my stay unpleasant. I wish it was back in the PRE-HACK error.

You know, I don't ever really contribute to the general or tech because of the fact that most people's questions could be answered had they put in the 100's of hours that I have into reading tech articles, and just doing your own work on your car.

It's much easier to learn by doing; my friend has an 06 wrx and all he ever talks about is this shop that does this and that for him... I am always forced to make fun of him because of his mindset that he can't put on his own exhaust, or his avc-r, or this or that.

People need to get under the hood with a diagram or someone experienced and start asking questions. They need to dick with the car; do their own MHG/commetic(sp?). I did mine and let me tell you, it was probably the one biggest step from considering myself to NOT be mechanically inclined to actually being a decent mechanic.

I agree that the rep system got abused and obviously it needed to go. I think maybe a system where a moderator can go through and give rep, but not regular people would be a better system.

hey lagged.

its been a while, i havent seen you in on foreva.

where ya been?

yeah, people piss me off in 7mgte/7m/ and general discussion, they ask the same question 1091039013 times over, JDM motor +101201092 hp. or OMG my 7m has 100k miles on it and i was boosting 15psi and BHG, what a shitty motor, i replaced the HG not knowing what im doing and i left the surfaces very dirty and i got another BHG, the motor design is so ghetto

I like the people here, but HONESTLY, i'd say 20% of the people here ACTUALLY know there shit.

lol... it's not that people don't know their shit, rather people just lack the drive to learn. Owning a supra takes dedication, just like any other hobby. In order to KNOW about it and TALK about it CORRECTLY, you must have put the time in to LEARN about it.

I'd say probably less than 10 % of people registered who post a lot KNOW what they are actually talking about.

i post less frequently because i have found my self with a desire to really just mouth off at some people, and i realize that is not positive nor contributing to the thread. so, i say nothing at all.

there are great questions here and there, and to answer many of them knowledge is required that i simply do not possess, so again i simply refrain from posting if i cant contribute.

ill still be around, this is still a great site and eventually i think the idiots will smarten up, or GTFO.

That's not a bad idea but I think all the post/rep whores will then become moderator nut-swingers.

The moderators on this site can't be bought off. Lord knows I've tried.............:biglaugh:

We do have alot more horseplaying on here than what we had two or three months ago, but I still enjoy getting on here in the evenings. I like to have a little fun myself, but I still use this site to try and solve my supra problems. It's also helped me realize what a strawberry shortcake is too............:biglaugh:
