Gaskets & Fuel Question

My supra buddy isn't answering his texts so I need to get some answers from here!

Still making progress on the car putting the 7mgte in mine. Head and block seperated sending the head in tomorrow to get checked, cleaned, new seals all that. Going to order a felpro head gaskets and arp head stud kit. For other gaskets, my dad has a friend who is a head toyota mechanic and he's going to help us. He gave it a good look and says all the gaskets have been replaced already, so we're only going to replace ones we've taken off. Where do you recommend to get those? Just get individual gaskets from Toyota? Probably only need like 5-8 or so.

Also fuel pump, I've heard it's terrible to use an old tired na fuel pump on a freshened up turbo engine... Doing reading seems more complicated than I thought. Are there no pumps that we can just pull the one out of the tank and replace it with aftermarket and get a pressure regulator? Supra buddy said something about a stealth aeromotive pump as well... Also I don't want to do this improperly to lose any MPGs, it is MY daily driver BUT I can easily borrow family cars if something happens.

As well as upgrades we don't really have any money for them right now, the only thing probably going in with the engine is a 3" downpipe from driftmotion, as well as intake and it already has a full length 3". With stock everything else basically. Future plans are boost controller, Intercooler, 57trim ct26 upgrade from DM and AFM and injectors with maftpro or a tune or something but that's quite a bit down the line anyways.

I'd replace the front and rear mains while its out and apart.

Also seal the oil pan up good.

Oem seals from toyota are the best.

Can get a walbro pump from drift motion for a little over 100$. Bypass or drill out the j tube if you do that.

So the walbro inline pump? Know nothing about the "J tube". Are all the walbro pumps the same or are they different for each application?

Also not touching seals we're pretty sure they've already been done and it doesn't leak anywhere.

Walbro in tank pump. It's on driftmotions site.

Best to replace the rear main will trans is off. Not fun to pull trans while in car.

Oh okay I only saw inline pumps when I was there. I'll check it out again later, assuming it's not real difficult? And I'd have to get a fuel regulator correct and set it for toyota's set pressure or whatever? Which I'm sure I'llg et more information for it when I get to it.

Not nesseccary but great to have. Set it at about 36 psi.

And when you do the walbro have to drill out or bypass the j tube.

There is a Walbro in-tank pump as well as an in-line pump. The in-line pump will also work for you, and won't require you to drop the tank, but will require some creativity to install.

I'm using an old, "tired" pump with my turbo engine, and it's keeping fuel pressure just fine. (Nearly half a million klicks on the chassis/fuel pump, it works fine.) I am planning on replacing it with an in-tank Walbro, as well as adding the in-line pump.

The Walbro works, and connects up, but not a direct OEM fit. The Mk4 Denso pump costs a bit more but will be a direct fit, and is a substantial improvement. It's even better than the Walbro.

Thanks man. Is the 400lph worth it to spend extra? Anything I have to change with wiring? Without a pressure regulator will it run richer and get worse milage?

Heh. If you're asking if you need the 400lph, then the answer is: "You don't." You'll know that you need it because you'll have to do some serious building and tuning on a 3L engine to get there.

The 255lph in-tank kit is your best bet, and it will have what you need to install it and have it working.

The stock regulator is fine, but removing the restriction in the "J" tube is a good idea with a bigger pump. (This is because the restriction becomes a sort of "backup" regulator, and you'll get more pressure than you should at lower demands.) It's an easy fix.

I just got a wahlbro 255 to go with my 550cc RC's and a Lexus MAF housing. How do I go about bypassing this j tube when the time comes?
