Gas saving idea from the other forum

Improve gas mileage!
I figured out a way to save gas on the supra. You'll need:

4 switchs
20 ft electrical wiring

Basically you want to wire in a switch between the fuel injectors and coils 1,6 in series. After you have done this take it for a drive on the freeway; you can now turn off cylinders 1,6 on the fly when you are just cruising and don't need the power.

Other things you can do:

light driveshaft
light rear wheels
don't fill up the tank more than 1/2
water injection (didn't see much of an improvement)
free flowing exhaust
use hotter spark plugs with slightly wider gap(careful though, detonation may occur)
fuel computer

Hope this helps.

My question is would this harm your engine? It sounds like he's trying to mimic what Chevy and Dodge are doing with their cars now, but I'm wondering about engine damage.

Works in theory but the computer wouldnt recognize this Im guessing.

Wouldnt the O2 sensor pick up the sudden drop in emmisions and alter the ECU, maybe put the car in a kind of limp mode.

The only difference is, they spent millions on r&d before actually applying it in reality...I think its a bust..

On the whole it could be done well and effectively enough to see some mileage gains, but this particular implementation is not well thought out.

Oh, I know. Only a few pounds per gallon. I just figured I'd say it before someone else did.

EDIT: And just for those of you who're looking for wicked weight reduction it's actually between 6-6.4 pounds per gallon at 74ºF. (depends on grade and additives)

This coil idea will not work and will harm your engine.

You see, you must release the compression inside the cyl to actually save mileage.

The new 4 -8 - 4 v8/v4 chevy engines do this - they release the compression and shut off the spark and fuel to half the cyls while under highway/light load.

If you didn't shut off the fuel and just the spark, you'd be running hella rich out the ehaust. No gas savings there.... computer is still feeding cyl's #1 & #6.

Now what I want to know, is WHO THE CRAP ON THE "OTHER" FORUM POSTED THIS SH!T?

I heard it was a new product/service in the MDC line-up :icon_razz

But seriously, If you were honestly worried about gas mileage why would you have a turbo mkIII? My mkII gets about 27mpg with me driving the piss out of it. I mean mkIII T's get what, 18 mpg if you drive 55 downhill w/ the windows up, AC off, no PS or other acc... I thought this is why most of us had daily drivers?

I didn't mean to say anything negative towards you:icon_bigg .
Though someone here said he got 30mpq out of his fathers MKIII and some get little lower. Would like to see how:icon_razz , but if I can't see, then I get used to mine:icon_bigg

So if I wanna save on gas, I guess installing those 1000cc injectors probably not the best idea huh? 10an fuel line, dual feed with 3 fuel pumps, not good either?

well DAMN IT! lol......

Yea umm I get decent mileage well better than stock by about 2 mpg city and 3 on highway, All I did was intake, free exhaust DP back, and some other performance mods, including hardpipes which seem to help. I don't think I'd try a homegrown cylinder shut off thats very very risky and not to mention just not all that fun considering all the work to save 50 cents in gas maybe. It's not like bad gas mileage is a suprise, the cars built to make power and go fast not get granny penny pincher mileage, I look at this thread like I look at the guy who wanted a shocker device for people messing with his car with the targa off, its elaborate, has a lot of unforseen things that could go bad, and is time consuming. BUY A DD or Drive your supra less, gas prices are always gnna go up, we are being robbed but sometimes my friend ,like in prison, ya gotta BEND OVER AND TAKE IT.
