I would like to know how to make the gas gauge light on, when I still have over half a tank left.

it's a good idea, living in an area that gets snow... never know if you'll get stuck and you need that gas to keep the heat going at minimum

i think whats he is trying to do is get the low gas warning light to go on earlier. so he isnt warned when he has an empty tank.
i never let it get down below a minimum of 1/3 tank, so it could be useful to have it go on earlier

The low level sensor is seperate from the main sensor so you "could" cut it off the assembly and clamp it higher up the leg giving an earlier light.

Ah, if that's the case it's just a float in the fuel tank. As noted it's separate from the fuel gauge sender, so you should be able to "adjust" it to come on when you want.
Why half a tank? Hell you can tell on the normal gauge when it's there...

I do this whenever I get a new car, I take a Jerry can of fuel and just drive till it stops so I can get an idea of any warning/behaviour it exhibits as it runs low.
