Gas door is not opening! Need immediate help!

this is the most ridiculous thread ever. i cant get my gas door to open up. i pulled the lever. tried pulling both the levers at the same time. tried to pry it open with a screw driver. dumped hott water down the cracks [its cold right now in iowa] had a friend pull on it when i pulled the lever..

im BELOW "E" on my gas gauge and i really need to fill up. what can i do to open it?

You could have a friend pry on it with a screwdriver while u yank on it.. OR...

You could pull out your right side trunk plastic and reach your arm in there and manually pull the lever to open it.

Same happened to me!

too much slack in the line, mine stuck in the cold weather but once I got it open I hit the hinges with some light oil and haven had a problem since

When I first got my car it was doing this too, but it would open with the help of another person banging on it
What I did was just sanded down the black plastic thing that the lever pulls.

i know how you feel lol, when it happened to me I felt like an ass standing there infront of everyone and couldn't get my gas door open so I had to just leave then come back:rofl:

^^ yep!.. My gas door was bent so we had to whack it with a hammer to straighten out the hinges. We also filed down the plastic knob that releases it so it doesnt have to pull in as far. Works great now.

DO NOT USE A SCREWDRIVER TO PRY THE DOOR OPEN!

This will only chip your paint and possibly break something you will have to pay more money to replace.

Step 1:
Open your hatch

Step 2:
Pop the panel out in the interior of the car that gives access in behind the plastic trim

Step 3:
Reach your hand in that hole (I've got big arms and I was able to do this) and work your way up to where the fuel door latches

Step 4:
Locate where the cable connects to the latch mechanism - the cable pulls on this mechanism releasing the pin that allows the fuel door to pop open

Step 5:
Push/Pull this lever moving the pin that allows the fuel door to pop open. * IF your spring is worn out you can use your other hand to grab the door and pull it open while you are still pulling on the lever moving the pin.

You may have to use your imagination to visualize where this all connects as your trim will be in the way.

Trust me... it is a lot easier than removing all of your interior to get access to this.

I replaced my cable with a solenoid to release the fuel door. So much nicer than reaching down and pulling a lever.

Most likely your cable has stretched. Oil will not fix that issue.

ok, so i got my hand in the little hole. after cutting my wrists on the metal, i got the door open. i had a friend pull the lever by the driver seat and it pulled the little black piece back but not enough to open the door so im not sure on an immidiate fix but for now ill just have to reach in my car and pull the lever down from inside the hatch. talk aboutgay but it will work for now.

any idea on how to install a solenoid? lots of work?

Not really actually.

Remove interior - for ease of access.
Find a place to mount the solenoid - AutoLoc makes a lot of different ones and their small one is plenty big enough.
Run a 12V+ wire back from the front and connect this to the solenoid
Connect a ground to the solenoid
Connect the cable from the solenoid to the lever on the fuel door release
Connect up a button and push it

Once you are in the back with the solenoid in your hand and the interior ripped out it will become very obvious what you need to do.
