I am looking for a recommendation for a Full Gasket Set for the 7MGTE. Engine and Tranny are both going through a top to bottom rebuild, so the last thing I want is to have a leak as a result of cheap gaskets...

Thanks for the input

There was a thread on this earlier this month or late october.

Conclusion seemed to be that the cheap gasket sets were fine for most the less significant gaskets, but you want good ones (Genuine Toyota) for the head gasket, exhaust manifold, turbo, turbo elbow and maybe a few others.

One of those "other" gaskets is the EGR cooling plate on the back of the head. Apparently most are paper where as it can use something a little more substantial. Just remembered that off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more, and I'm sure you'll get more responses :)

I have a full overhaul set w/ all the seals and gaskets for upper and lower. I bought the headset for a BHG, then found the block was etched and had to pull it for machining - so I bought the lower kit.
Then found that the machinist had purchased the whole overhaul kit for me....
The set(s) that I have came from PartsDinosaur and I'll sell 'em for less than I paid. I'll have to check what he charged me for 'em if you're interested.
I'm in SF bay area so shipping shouldn't be too bad.
LMK,
David

Thanks for info, sorry I did try and search as I try not to post info that someone else has already asked... anyway that sounds logical...

SYTY1 let me know how much you want for it, I guess I should ask and make sure machine shop is not already buying one...

I will not use HG either way, will be going with an HKS MHG.

Also one of the turbo gaskets, I think the oil inlet/outlet Toyota does not even sell anymore... I put a used turbo in last spring for a temp fix and had to make one... it held either way...

Thanks for advice...

Yeah I've started that thread previously....I've been buying what gaskets I need as I go from Toyota as I have a friend in the parts depot at the local champion....it's actually not that expensive as he gives me his employee discount (the cheapest toyota says they can sell the gaskets at!)....think I've spent $150 so far and I believe I have everything I need!

Any part that was removed from my top end rebuild got new gaskets so that's pretty much the whole motor as the shortblock doesn't use many gaskets....

I didn't want to chance it so Toyota I went:)

Dont buy the Cometic kit, its very, very cheap quality, does not come with all the gaskets, and then to top it off, mine came with a 4age TVIS to Head gasket and a upper timing cover gasket for the 4age.

I would suggest Fel-pro or Sealed Power, they are usually very good quality.
Another thing is in most import listings (at least I know for Toyota) If you get the Sealed Power full kit it will come with an OEM HG (though not labeled as such).

Cometic does make metal headgaskets but they don't supply them in gasket sets....the mls gaskets is a different division of cometic.

o and another quick question... you know when you go to autozone or kragen and they sell you the fel-pro gaskets, but they always have 3 different gaskets at different prices? does anyone know if there is really much of a difference or just trying to make more money? I always go for the expensive gaskets but I bought 2 for my intake manifold, 1 expensive and 1 cheap and they seemed the same

Gaboon. Cometic is all one division. A good few of their full gasket kits do come with a MLS head gasket. The 7m just happens to be one that does not. Cometic does not make mot of the componants in the gasket sets. Most of the parts are sourced from other manufacturers. At least most of them are in the USA and Canada.

The problem with most aftermarket gaskets sets, I have have witnessed, is the seals have started to leak after 1 year. I would use the Toyota master kit as my first choice, Cometic and felpro would be 2nd.
