I just got my ddp but I haven't installled it yet. Can I turn down the boost with a mbc in order to not hit fuel cut?

To a point, of course. At some time, the MBC is set to the same as having no controller in there, and that is the lowest you can go.
yeah, from what I understand you cannot turn an MBC DOWN from whatever the minimum boost you would hit without one.
