anyone ever try making a front splitter out of aluminum and paint it black?
just a random thought seeing how they're so expensive and no one makes one for the mkiii. just figured it would look better and be a ton cheaper to make your own. any ideas?

Aluminum would be too thin IMHO. It would sound like a thunderstorm. I think Fiberglass would be less likely to get all flap happy. Wouldn't be to hard to do either

1 Card board template
2 Wax cardboard and lay glass
3 Roll out air pockets and let kick
4 Trim
5 Lay in support ribs and lay glass
6 Roll out again let kick and trim
7 Pop cardboard off of glass
8 Sand, Trim and Paint Viola you have your very own splitter

Are you refering to a engine under cover or an actual front splitter they are different items a front splitter extends past the front lip the under cover does what it sounds like covers under the engine and keeps tubulant air under the car the factory one works great at higher speeds I have driven my car with and without the factory unit(until it got torn off) every Supra should have one anyways heres what I did I made my own out of puck board, If you are reffering to a real splitter the same Idea appys only it extends past the front lip and is adjustable for real track use

You will have to use a stonger material for a front splitter Ive seen plywood used

Oh my.. An APR front splitter on a mk3. I was over at my buddies tonight helping him with his APR widebody STi and looked at the APR front splitter and wondered what it would like on mk3.

well besides the main function of the actual splitter. being metal it would protect the front bumper in which my oil and power steering coolers are mounted. they're in the fog light holes and i don't want a pot hole to kill my coolers plus like you said it would be asthetic as well
