From 15w50 To 10W30 Oil Question

Hey guys, I am getting ready to complete my cars project which includes a new Oil system with NA adaptor, relo kit, B&M cooler, thermostat etc (Full flow).
I have been using Mobil1 15w50 Full syntec since my last rebuilt (after engine break-in) which is a long time ago with no problem. lately its getting harder and harder to find the 15w50 mobile1, I went to 2 walmarts today with no luck, they are always sold out. I know they are out there, but it means making different stops at different places to find it sometimes. The Mobile1 10w30 Full syntec is always widely available and is cheaper by the way. Is there anything wrong with switching to 10w30? I understand that it would be thinner oil, but will it hurt anything? should I compensate it with some Oil Stabilizer like the Lucas that some people like? (Dont flame :) ) Also is there a company online that sells Engine oil in packs/cases which would offer some savings?

DO NOT USE LUCAS.

guh... that shit is freaking like gear oil. Lucas can be used as a decent assembly lube in a pinch, but I can't believe people use that shit in their cars.

Next time you are at autozone, if they have that little multi-geared Lucas display, try this little test...

1) Spin it slowly. Notice how it travels up the gears so well? Isn't that so nice? :rolleyes:

2) Grab that bitch, and pretend you are going WOT - spin it up as fast as you can (maybe what... 250 rpms?) then stop, and look at the Lucas.

3) Wonder why the hell it looks like FOAMED UP MILKSHAKE.

Yup! Seen several gear failures due to Lucas oil stabilizer. Reason being? It retains soooo much air that it turns into a froth rather than a protective oil.

Lucas saved the 4G63 in my eclipse. Stopped it from burning oil. Yeah, it foams but that engine is a small four cyl. with no turbo. However, that said, I would never ever ever use it in a 7M.

Unfortunately, the engine clearance specs have not changed, or its requirements. Oil that does not flow as well when it is cold is not a benifit.

That does make sense. I always figured thicker oil would be better for an older high mileage engine whose internals might be a little worn. Again, I never had any problems with the 15w50 mobile1 especially being in south florida. From what I understand, 10w30 is the toyota recommended weight correct? The main reason I am considering switching is that while its not impossible to find, many time I go to a store (walmart, Advance autoparts etc) and they have everything except Mobile1 15w50 syntec. Plus the 10w30 is cheaper. I am mostly concern that the sudden change in oil thickness woud hurt the engine. But I guess If that what toyota recommends in the first place, then it should be fine.

In Florida, SoCal, Phoenix,(especially Phoenix) or other places where it just doesn't get cold you can probably get away with a higher number, but I can't think of a reason myself to chance it.

That is a beautiful car in the sig btw.
